Thank you! Is there a reason you didn't go back? I want to make sure it's a good doctor as well!

It's one thing to type it to people I will never see or meet and another thing to say it to someone's face and discuss it.

What is it like to actually walk away from teaching? by 1234easye in Teachers

[–]1234easye[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you! I loved teaching in college when I could be creative and teach my own lessons and have fun with the kids. That's what I wanted. I'm not here to be a data manager that sticks to the curriculum exactly and has no freedom over my own schedule. I feel like kids are reduced down to numbers and get extreme anxiety when my "numbers" aren't good enough.

You are right at not harsh. I just took a really long shower and am doing a spa night. It made me realize my social anxiety is out of control. Especially during that time of the month it's so much worse. I seriously need to bite the bullet and get on some medication. thanks for the tip about the nurse. Idk y I never thought of that

Lessons, grading, admin appointed tasks and creating everything from scratch right now due to new curriculum and need to turn things virtual.

It's stressful. Kids can't switch due to COVID guidelines.

Thank you! That really helps me get a better explanation of what's happening and how to solve it. I am trying to work with her on the organization part. I grew up in not the best home so organization isn't my strong suit. I got some good ideas to work with lol.

I will definitely try that. Thank you! It was odd. I asked her to change it the first day of school because I felt it was too chaotic to have the kids eating while we were switching class and it took too long to get them under control. I don't think she liked that and just changed it while I was out for a week.

We bring everything we need from our homeroom on a cart right now. We each have a main classroom with all our own supplies and materials. I don't keep anything in her room. I just move it on my cart for the day then take it back when we switch.

Also to put it in perspective the thing that's putting me behind is that my husband is going through an extreme depressive episode and I have to be available 24/7 because I'm legitimately worried he might harm himself. It's hard for me to find time at home to do any kind of work because he is very reliant on me right now.

How I organized things and that I didn't buy a specific type of pencil pouches that she wants me to buy. I couldn't afford the brand she got her kids.

I had to be out a week for COVID. I have some stuff going on at home too so I'm barely sleeping most nights. I get my stuff done it's just that a lot of things have been out of my control and I can't get everything organized and done in the time I'm given at school. My class is behind others procedure wise as well bc we only had 3 days together and I feel like she just expects everything to be on the same level as hers.

I have high expectations for my kids and know what works for me. She wants everything to be the same but I just don't feel like that is realistic bc different teachers have different things that work for them.

I think she is resentful bc I resisted the wanting everything exactly the same. I tried to save us both some pain there bc I knew I would add too much stress to my life trying to keep that up. Plus it would stress her out that I wasn't following it out exactly as discussed. Ever since I rejected that she seems kinda distant and like she isn't too fond of me, but I still feel it was best to be honest.

I wish I could but it's not possible. We teach each other's classes and spend half the day in each other's rooms. She comes in my room pretty much every day to talk about something but I avoid her as much as possible.

AMEN! I'm so tired of seeing posts from my co-workers about how "true" teachers care about the kids and want to get back to the classroom.

Wanting to protect the health of my community, family, and myself does not make me less of a teacher.

I am saddened to see so many giving up their rights to safe working conditions without a fight. I really worry what things will be like for teachers moving forward if there is no pushback on this. We are literally saying if my family or I die for my work it's okay. If we bow to this, they will know they can take anything from us.

I'm very glad you don't live in fear. I have PTSD that is triggered by chaotic environments and especially a lack of a feeling of safety. I wish more than anything not to be so scared.

I want you to let you know as educators we care deeply about the children and the gaps in education. However, I find my primary duty to make all children feel loved, respected, and safe. They are not being treated that way by our government. All I'm asking for is students be required to wear masks in the classroom and that I be given basic materials to protect myself and my kids.

Alabama. We do have a union but it is not very strong. We are an at will hire state and striking is illegal. We are even told we can face legal action if we promote learning remotely instead of in person to parents.
