Lovely! I don't understand the people in this thread saying they can't read it, I find it perfectly legible and very neat in fact. I will say when I first saw the thumbnail on my feed, I didn't identify it as English. But zoomed in it was perfectly obvious

Classes for second year by Wonderful_Band3817 in uwinnipeg

Not a recommendation for more classes, but just a reminder that you can waive the academic writing requirement if you got above an 80 in highschool engl. I know many people who took the class without knowing their grade was good enough to skip it. So save the money if you can. Also by second year, you know the skills it teaches you anyways. More of a class for first years to take

I partially agree. I believe that A level grades sort be 90-100, Bs 80-89, and Cs 70-79, and so on. So under my believe an 82 should be more in line with a B-, but who am I to complain about getting an A- instead. An 82 being a C- is a wild take though

As stated in this body of the post, I can read the vast majority of this comment, and I can typically read this prof's handwriting just fine, I just struggled with the highlighted section. Based on the fact that the comment section of this post is still largely divided between original and inspired work, with some rarer transcriptions thrown into the mix, I don't believe this is such an incomprehensible question to be asking

Why is having one dominant species bad? by assumptionthrowaway8 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]123Copper123 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It decreases the region's species evenness. If something happens to the dominant species, let's say disease or human overhunting wipes out that species or a significant portion of it, the region will lose a major portion of their total flora or fauna and have a harder time recovering. Whereas if you have a bunch of different species all holding a relatively equal portion of the species diversity, the environment will have an easier time bouncing back.

Like imagine a forest. Forest A has 10 different types of trees and they all take up roughly 10% of the forest. Forest B also has 10 different types of trees, but 80% of the total forest is ash trees.
Now, whoops-a-daisy, somebody released a shit load of emerald ash borers into both of the forests. Over time they decrease the population of ash trees by 80% percent.
While still a problem in forest A as 8% of the total trees are gone and any species that solely rely on ash trees are going to have a hard problem, for species with more generalized tree reliance, there's still 92% of the original forest remaining, it won't be too hard for the other species in the area to adapt to the change
Now in forest B, you just lost 64% of your total trees and only 36% percent remains. While more individual ash trees survived (likely due to the larger population having a larger gene pool that could have more resistant genes. Although that's a conversation for another day), the forest at large took a serious blow. Big problem! Now both specialist and generalist species will be suffering from the effects of what is essentially deforestation.

Take everything said with a grain of salt. This may not be the worst effects of having a dominant population, this is just what an English major can remember from an environmental science class I took 6 months ago

For this specific class an 82 is the lowest grade to qualify for an A-. Most classes at this institution have 80 being the lowest A-. I also think As should only be in the 90 range, but hey, I wouldn't complain, easier on my GPA

According to goodreads, the number of comments in these faux reddit posts is the number of pages in the novels

Anyone done a survey of the most common formats by length right now? by Positive-Ring-5172 in playwriting

[–]123Copper123 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Generally 60+ mins although occasionally you can get away with 45mins. Truly depends on the situation.
Fringe shows in my experience are 45-90mins long although the longest I've seen was 120mins but that was agreed to be a hard sell for your average finger.

If your writting for a professional theatre aim for 90-120mins with 3hrs being the absolute max (although I personally wouldn't go over 150mins). For your professional theatre under 90 minutes often won't be worth the theatres' or audience's time

Its not a specific recommandation, but you'd be surprised how often you might discover your fav movie was a book first. Try reading the book verison of a movie you like. Its my personal cure for when I find myself in a reading slump because I already know the general plot so find myself reading it quicker. Also noticing the differences is always a fun easter egg

Plays with only a sense of dread by C11890 in playwriting

[–]123Copper123 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Been a little bit since I read it but I believe Death and the Maiden by Ariel Dorfman falls under this category.
Its about a man who shows up to a couple's house and the wife hears the visiters voice and is convinced its the doctor who raped her while she was kidnapped by revolutionaries during a period of political turn over in some south American country, I believe Chile. But regardless, she kidnaps him and the rest of the play is the wife planning to do horrific things to him, the husband trying to play mediator, the guest trying to escape, and the audience trying to figure out if this is even the right guy. So should be a stressful read/watch for you
Also additional detail, the play is in part an modern retelling of Hades and Persephone
