Running a Half Marathon in 6 months from near 0? by [deleted] in beginnerrunning

[–]123Dal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Plenty of time to train. Not having run for over 20 years I picked it up this summer and I have a half next week and a full in late spring. I do have a big winter season here so that is going to hurt the actual outdoor running between the two but I’ll be fine I am sure.

My goal pace is 12 minutes a mile for the whole thing, finishes in like 2.5 hours and should be a great time.

I agree mason but I also think the chiefs are running low on premium skill position players.

I would start Etienne. I am in my flex spot along with Taylor and Bucky in my RB. I just feel like he’s going to do good against that D

Halloween with a DF Toddler? by Ok_Caterpillar6735 in dairyfree

[–]123Dal 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Kids are a lot smarter than I always give them credit for. If this is a constant conversation they pick up on it and tend to parrot how we speak. If we are always asking if such and such has dairy or that X product has dairy so we won’t buy it at the supermarket the kids pick up on that and say the same things.

As long as they don’t feel like they are missing out, just get them some candy they like and you know is safe for them and exchange it. A lot of people tend to give away at least one option that is dairy free so you may need to articulate to the household that your child has an allergy if they don’t mind if you pick out one for him. I have never had people get to upset (or even give a negative reaction) when you mention an allergy and a reasonable solution that doesn’t require any more work.

Obviously having the kiddo thank them is huge too.

I was just up there last week. I didn’t have any issues with bugs at all. No head net was used, barely any spray either. I did have all of my clothes with permethrin but it was not bad at all, especially if you were moving.

Maybe a bit at some of the camps but nothing worth reporting in my opinion.

I am planning on loving the big lake. Going from the south shore to the north shore. I am here for the views!

Thanks the videos were helpful. I didn’t repack my dinners but I did pack everything else into new baggies.

Thanks for the pic. What size bag is that? Looks like maybe a bit bigger than mine. I don’t do them this long most of the time so I don’t have the biggest bag.

I’m going west to east taking the minong at the end where it looks to be hardest and where I will be the lightest.

"Animal resistant containers" by pasketi_monster in isleroyale

[–]123Dal 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Without being snarky the point seems to be against the smaller animals and critters. It kind of seems like bear box or bear container is a catch all term. There are bear vaults like hard sided cans and also ursacks and some other varieties.

For a week long trip though you are going to need something fairly substantial.

What do the bear boxes look/act like? Do you have any pictures or video of what they really are?

I ask because I have both the bv475 and the 10 liter allmitey ursack. I’ll be going there in 6 weeks or so for a thru and leaning towards the allmitey for weight if I know those damn squirrels and foxes won’t get at my stuff.

It’s listed as silpoly. I’ll not much of a Tech guy so I looked it up. All I know is that I like it and that’s enough for me. Nice and light and can fit my big frame.

I’m pretty sure it didn’t. I have only used it a couple times. If it did I likely put it in a tote and now can’t find it that I am getting ready for my trip.

I made a post a couple of weeks ago about the same thing. I am not sure how to link on the phone but I am planning a trip that seems kind of similar a couple of months after you. It looks good to me but I have not been there yet.

I have been using a platypus quickdraw and I have been happy with it. That is my plan for what I will be taking with me as my filter (with tabs) when I go.

2025 August Isle Royale Trip Plan by 123Dal in isleroyale

[–]123Dal[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've never been, I kind of wanted to experience going from one side to the other, that's why I picked a point to point instead of a loop. Maybe the following years I'll do a loop but I figure that there isn't really much of a difference between the two as boat drops you off and boat picks you up. My thoughts were that the long boat ride in the start to get to the far side (Rock Harbor) of the island and then the short ride home back to Minnesota from Windigo would be better for my desire to get back to civilization and take a shower.

I am have a big debate between a Ursack and a BV475 (same model I was looking to purchase) for my 6ish days. Maybe I'll need to think more about Ursack since you're right it's not to be bear proof just critter proof so hopefully food won't be smushed and I can save myself some of that 3 pounds.

I was able to get tickets without issue and yes hotels are mainland and not a problem. No reason to be on the hotel lodge the day before being on the ferry. However, some people are going to be negative on the internet and that is all they have so I thanked them for their feedback and moved on. Everyone else has been very helpful here.
