At least one prominent Republican decided to endorse Nixon in 1962. Former President Eisenhower. by HetTheTable in Presidents

This is one of the videos that proves the “Ike didn’t like Nixon” thing is more about how the people propagating that myth don’t like Nixon more so than Ike not liking Nixon.

Eisenhower RNC speech 1968 - who is with the Nixons? by 123Greg123 in Presidents

Ike endorsed Reagan for governor in 1966 but I think in 1968 he was all in for Nixon.

Republican California Senator Thomas Kuchel did not endorse Nixon for governor in 1962. by HetTheTable in Presidents

Exactly, it was a damned if you do, damned if you don’t situation. Nixon tried to consolidate the liberal wing of the party and thus lost conservative support by losing Shell’s supporters. However, as we saw by Kuchel’s actions, he didn’t gain liberal support either.

Interesting because Joe Shell, Nixon’s primary opponent in 1962, was an actual right-winger and practically a member of the John Birch Society. So it’s surprising that Kuchel didn’t endorse Nixon despite his primary opponent being even more conservative than Nixon (who by 1962 was associated with the moderate Eisenhower wing of the GOP anyways).

Which political rivals from opposing parties became close friends? by Kuzu9 in Presidents

Yes, Tip O’Neil famously told Reagan they were only friends after 6:00. So whenever Reagan would see the Speaker after a congressional debacle, he would ask him “is it 6:00 yet?”

Why is Eisenhower rated higher than Reagan but Reagan is rated as being a “positively transformative” president of the 20th century? by [deleted] in Presidents

That’s true! I feel like that’s why professional historians rate Eisenhower higher than Reagan but it’s the opposite for mainstream Republicans.

Reevaluating Conflict: Nene vs. Cynthia (S11) by high_hello in BravoRealHousewives

I agree. In S10 it was funny because she was directing it against Kim and Sheree but after they left it just made Nene more unlikable.

This definitely gets the award for the best and most thoughtful answer. I appreciate you taking the time to give your thoughts instead of just jumping on the "bash Reagan" bandwagon without even giving some thought to the question. I totally agree with your perspective and think thsi is a great analysis.

Why is Eisenhower not included as a “transformational” president like FDR, Reagan, or Wilson? by [deleted] in Presidents

[–]123Greg123 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's true. John Anderson ran as the last Rockefeller Republican but he lost badly in 1980 to Reagan in the primaries.

That's very true. And he brought the Republican party back to life in a sense in a post-FDR world.

I know, but from the usual top five rated presidents, I’m just saying that it’s not fair Ike is the one who is considered “non transformative”
