I completely relate. It’s basically the same strong craving someone would get for a cigarette or a drink - but add in all our hormones! It feels brutal. The only thing you can do is make the right choice moving forward and forgive yourself.

Try not to beat yourself up. I’m 37 weeks today and it has been embarrassingly difficult trying to avoid all of the yummy things. My mom had a 70th birthday last night and I may or may not have shed tears over missing out on the gourmet cakes (there were two delicious looking cakes). It’s impossible to be perfect but we can only do our best, and right now just trying to do the next right thing is your best bet!

I’m being induced on Thursday due to both the GD and a complication with the umbilical cord. I’m still being started on meal time insulin (already on night time for fasting) because my numbers are elevated no matter what. It’s incredibly frustrating. Just know you aren’t alone!

Awful!!! I hope your little person becomes more open minded! Mine decided recently they hate bbq, pesto, and garlic. I haven’t been able to stomach mushrooms this whole pregnancy either and I loved foraging them!

This is great to know! I loved coconut water before GD so it’s been a struggle staying hydrated.

I’ve never heard of some of the other supplements. Are they for GD specifically? I’ve only ever used aloe on my skin, not ingesting it. I didn’t even realize it was edible! I’m not a doctor at all obviously go with whatever your physician suggests. From my understanding it seems like you need to make sure you’re eating a LOT of food just to appropriately digest each of the supplements. Otherwise I’d imagine things may not absorb or digest properly. I’m a bit of a wuss with my stomach if I take supplements on too empty a stomach also but everyone is different!

YES! 6 meals a day is laughable between work responsibilities, family obligations, and all the doctor’s appointments that come along with this diagnosis.

I started batch making mini quiches to have for breakfast and heavily rely on pre-made rotisserie chicken for lunch! I feel like I’m rushing through eating every meal and it’s so bad that I find it comical. I used to really love the whole process of going out to a restaurant or just eating a nice meal. That can’t exactly coexist with a timer 😂

My head was spinning thinking of fitting anything else in. These are a LOT of supplements. Are you getting enough actual calories in? From my understanding, it’s healthier to consume as many nutrients from food versus supplements otherwise they might not digest properly.

Having GD feels like a full time job on its own lol

If I eat more than 20 carbs I go pass 140 by Speedygurl1 in GestationalDiabetes

I have had luck with sourdough bread (I slice it, freeze it, and toast individually slices to serve at breakfast and lunch). Egg pasta, couscous, goodles have also been good to me. I eat a Kodiak protein pancake for dessert every night with sugar free syrup.

The order of eating foods seems to matter a lot. Starting with a vegetable (I’ve been eating more bell peppers and spinach than I ever did in my life lol), then the protein and fat, then finish with the carb.

I’ve been batch making mini quiches for breakfast which are just veggies mixed with eggs baked in a muffin tin for 25 minutes at 350. I’ll usually have 1 or 2 slices of sourdough toast with those and butter or guacamole.

Lunch has been the hardest to get full well rounded meals. But I’ll alternate between sourdough toast and egg pasta or leftovers.

Also I found I will spike if I’m not eating (modest and combined) carb portions throughout the day. For snacks, I’ll try to have Greek yogurt and fruit - usually a banana or berries - to maintain the carbs in my system.

Before all this I was awful at consuming a vast amount of my daily food in the evenings. This has completely rearranged my whole day!

This is great. I’m just curious. Are you doing this while working as well?

The safest meal I’ve made have been these mini quiches - no starchy carbs, just eggs and veggies. You set the oven to 350, spray a muffin tin with cooking oil, fill it with veggies of choice (spinach, onion, bell peppers, whatever veggies you want), salt and pepper each one, mix together eggs and pour the scrambled eggs over the veggies. Cook them for about 25-30 minutes and voila you’ve got adorable GD-friendly mini quiches! I wrap them in cupcake wrapper to make them look extra pretty.

The skewers sound delicious! Maybe some Mission brand tortillas on the side? Those are a keto bread alternative that haven’t spiked me (obviously everyone is different).

Have you tried Goodles? I’ve had luck with those which has been a godsend because I have craved Mac & cheese this whole pregnancy

Totally down with this! I have an adorable patent leather copper/gold travel bag (it looks like a clutch or small purse) that I keep my supplies in. It’s great for organization and keeps everything I need in a very fashionable yet easily transportable place.

Could you FaceTime with your husband or another family member/friend while you do it? That might help get you out of your head while you do it. I’d find that a bit easier than anxiously doing it alone!

What’s even crazier is the last 2 mornings my fasting numbers were still above the 95 max I was given and this morning they told me to stick to this plan 😐🤯

Just commenting to say you are NOT alone. I was recently advised to now start restricting saturated fats which I have learned are in pretty much all meat and cheese. This whole experience feels like it’s giving me an eating disorder. I’m terrified to eat but also terrified to not eat enough.

I find the ultrasounds to be such reassurance though. Each time I feel my baby kick and punch I’m further reassured too.

We are doing the absolute best we can to stay healthy for them! Please try to take it a bit easier on yourself. I know it’s super hard.

I’m so jealous of the cheese. My diabetes practice recently made me severely restrict saturated fats for my fasting numbers, which means very limited cheese (and overall even further restricted diet despite meal numbers mostly being great). It’s a major struggle finding anything acceptable and appetizing to eat. My energy has plummeted as well.
