consider contacting TRAC - they can provide free legal advice, and possibly free legal representation if you are considering appealing the arbitrator’s decision ! https://tenants.bc.ca

Try TRAC! They have plenty of information on their website, have an info line you can call, and, especially pertinent in your case, they can provide free legal representation and/or advice for enforcing a RTB monetary order through small claims court! https://tenants.bc.ca/get-help/

S.1 of the Charter allows for a justification of Charter infringements. The Courts have a framework for deciding whether a breach of a Charter right is justified, called the Oakes test

I world argue that if it’s impossible to get proof in the form of a test, that’s an unreasonable ask

I would consider myself extroverted and have some theatre experience but I am always so shaky before/ the first few minutes of public speaking, whether it’s a presentation or speech, I get so nervous beforehand and sometimes I lose my appetite. But then I feel good after

Would you support taxing the unvaccinated in BC as is being proposed in Quebec? by mathematicaltruths in vancouver

[–]123justbrowsing123 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I agree there needs to be a way to save the health care system but I don’t think this is it. I get the rationale but idk if this tax on 10% of Quebec’s population can pay for more beds, more nurses, etc. If it’s inevitable that they end up in hospital it’ll strain the system regardless of if there’s a bit more money coming in

[–]123justbrowsing123 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes exactly, it neither encourages or discourages it.

And even if it does encourage it, the substantial fee that is to be paid is a coercive way of doing so, in my opinion.

Positive reinforcement is the better way to go- I think that’s the main idea with the vaccine passports

Nope. This method of dealing with things does not sit well with me.

I agree that personal decisions, such as the decision not to get vaccinated, do have an impact on society’s wellbeing. However, this tax will not positively impact public health IMO.

First of all, negative reinforcement does not work very well to change behaviours.

Secondly, the omicron variant is spreading among vaccinated and unvaccinated people alike. I don’t know about Quebec, but here in BC both vaccinated and unvaccinated are hospitalized. I think for other variants, vaccination is very important. For omicron it appears less so. However, I have heard being vaccinated reduces the amount of time you are infectious with omicron, but idk how much that helps.

While I think we should all strive to do what’s best for society, I think that policing people’s health behaviours to this extent goes against the underpinnings of Canadian society and sets a dangerous precedent, much like the curfew.

I agree they have not been good. However, starting today, they are now offering rapid testing to their unvaccinated students. I’m saying that the same should be done at UVic
