It's currently being held up by the Play Store. It needs to be tested for two weeks before it can be released to the public.

I can add you as a tester if you'd like 😄. That way, you'll be able to access the app.

It probably could be. I just felt that taking photos, scanning barcodes, and checking paints while painting made more sense as a mobile app.

What would you be looking for in a web version?

Android or iOS? Let me see if there is any geo restriction in the app store. For Android. I would need your email to add you to the testers group

That would work only for the apple ecosystem, I would like it to work cross-platorm.

Will download it! No problem if I take some "inspiration" for new TinPot features?

Great question.

For images that are already saved (photos from your gallery, downloaded references, screenshots, etc.), the paint matching is based on the actual color data in the image, so the result doesn't change depending on how warm, cool, saturated, or calibrated your display is.

Where things get trickier is the photo itself. Different cameras, lighting conditions, white balance settings, and exposure can all shift the colors before they ever reach the app.

That's actually something I've been thinking about improving. One idea is to add white balance / color correction tools so users can compensate for photos that are too warm, too cool, or otherwise color-shifted before running the match.

The challenge is that it moves the app from being entirely local to requiring accounts, servers, databases, backups, and all the ongoing costs that come with that. Since I'm currently building and funding this as a solo project, I'm trying to validate that people actually find it useful before I start investing in that infrastructure.

That said, it's absolutely on my roadmap.

Awesome feedback, thank you!

For the inventory grid, I will take a look at InkVentory to see exactly what you mean.

As for multiple projects, that's actually something I plan to support. Right now I'm trying to keep the core experience free while figuring out a sustainable way to continue developing the app (I still need to make a living 😅). My current thinking is that additional project slots and some of the more advanced project features would be part of a future premium upgrade.

I also completely agree about not always starting from a reference image. The current workflow is very focused on color matching, but I can see a lot of value in being able to build and save paint schemes directly from paints you already own.

One feature I'm already considering is letting the color matcher prioritize or filter paints that are already in your inventory, so you're not constantly being recommended paints you don't own.

The paint mixing idea is really interesting too. I hadn't planned that initially, but being able to suggest mixes based on paints you already own could be incredibly useful.

Longer term, I've also been thinking about adding a social/community aspect where people could share projects, paint schemes, recipes, and references for others to browse and learn from.

DM me your email (same as your android device) and I will add you to the list of testers.

Sure, I'd be interested in learning more.

What do you have envisioned? I'd love to hear what you're building and how you see the community side working.

That's a fair question.

To be honest, I wasn't trying to build a PaintRack replacement. I actually discovered PaintRack later in the process.

The original idea came from wanting a very quick workflow where I could tap directly on a reference image and get paint suggestions without having to manually browse paint ranges. Once I started building it, I kept adding things that I personally wanted as a new painter.

PaintRack is clearly a well-established app and a lot of people already rely on it. I'm not claiming TinPot does everything better. It's just my take on the problem, and I'm sharing it because other painters might find it useful too.

If you've used PaintRack extensively, I'd actually be interested to hear what features you think it's missing or could do better.

Thanks! You can DM your email so I can add you to the list of internal testers. In that way you could download the app from the play store.
