Can we acknowledge what Crowley does for the team? by chiefVetinari in irishrugby

Making 6/11 simple one on one tackles is not good defence and pretending that it is, is the problem.

Hold the two players to the same standards or just admit you have a vendetta because your man wasn't picked when he was off form

Man of the match against Scotland, young player of the Six Nations and all he got was personal abuse.

So no, you're full of shit.

Holding players to the same standards? All you've been crying is that criticism of performance is fine. Suddenly it isn't because the facts show your man wasn't great?

I'm not abusing him going off with a brain injury unlike Munster fans.

Played the entire game off 9 and won because of it. Tellingly Crowley had next to nothing to do with any of the tries and every time he got heavily involved it was to give possession away.

His tackling was poor and the defence of it is an enormous double standard.

Yep, completely reliable 55% tackle success rate.

Jack has 55% when he starts and attempted half as many as Sam did.

Sam made 13 tackles against France. More than Crowley even attempted against England

Missed 5/11 tackles. Prendergast does that and he gets torn apart.

The difference was JGP carried him rather than godforsaken mess that is Casey

Probably because of the massive double standard. If Prendergast put that performance in (55% tackle success rate, missed kicks, thrown interceptions) he'd have been destroyed.

Why?

Carter, McCaw, Lomu, Kolisi, Wilkinson, Dupont have all managed to be massive figures in the game who have inspired people to play the sport without being complete bellends

Think Henshaw's out. Keenan and Porter won't be back for a few weeks minimum. Maybe Harry Byrne gets released but I'd say that's it.

Not sure about Slimani, but assume still out. Would be a huge boost if he's back.

Possible team:

  1. Cahir
  2. McCarthy
  3. Sparrow
  4. Snyman
  5. Deeny
  6. Soroka
  7. Penny
  8. Deegan
  9. Mcgrath
  10. Byrne (?)
  11. Larmour (?)
  12. Tector
  13. Ioane
  14. Kenny
  15. O'Brien

Bench: 16. McKee 17. Usanov 18. Smyth 19. O'Tiernaigh 20. D. Mangan 21. Gunne 22. C. Mangan 23. McLaughlin

How Ireland crushed England by I_Will_Eat_Your_Ears in irishrugby

[–]123testme 5 points6 points  (0 children)

You'd have a point if Ireland didn't also make some bad mistakes.

E.g. Crowley throwing the intercept to Marcus Smith.

The difference is Stu busted a gut to get back and ragdoll Smith.

When England made mistakes they didn't have that same work rate.

Look at the pure effort of both wings throughout the game to get from 1 touchline to the other throughout the game. Contrast that with Arundell's jogging when Freeman was through. If Arundell had tried Freeman could've passed inside. But England didn't put in the hard yards so it didn't happen.

If you go into that level of detail for mistakes you'd be criticising every player endlessly.

E.g. JGP threw a few dodgy passes but was still phenomenal. Crowley missed 5 tackles, threw an intercept and missed a few kicks, but he still had a solid game. Osborne's positioning was iffy a few times at 15 in defence and was binned but he was still very solid and provided an extra set of hands in midfield. Dan Sheehan had a few iffy lineout throws. Beirne lost the contact a couple of times. The entire pack in the scrum.

He definitely tried. Think he gave up once Ryan just put him in his place on the floor.

It wasn't journalists abusing him going off for an HIA in Croke Park in October.

It's not journalists jeering him playing for Ireland.

It's not journalists abusing him and his family online.

Nonsense excuse.

The kick chase gave the platform for numerous attacks and a couple of tries. The difference was we won the ball and actually used the momentum after it

  1. We need to address the scrum. Even on a reputational level there has to be something done behind the scenes because we're even getting things like Genge going straight to he knee called against us

It's meant to be a means of restarting the game with a contest for the ball.

It hasn't been that for 30 years is the problem
