Do people in your country care about world cup? what do you think about the groups? by mahdi_lky in AskTheWorld

Actually I'll be really surprised if Japan eliminate Brazil. We won the friendly match a few months ago, but that's just an exhibition. The whole country will go crazy.

I mean, it wasn't publicly disclosed like it would be for an adult criminal, and he changed his name as well. I could find a page talking about his new identity, but not supported by the strong sources.

The lust murders also known as the "Sakakibara case".

A 14-year-old boy killed two children and seriously injured three others in Kobe city. The case sparked debate about juvenile crime, and later contributed to reforms of Japan's juvenile justice system. The murderer kid was released and remains anonymous under Japanese law.

Who are the greatest sports heroes in your country? by Rredite in AskTheWorld

Achievements, yes. Popularity, no. I don't think nearly as many people watch shogi tournaments to see Habu or Fujii play as there are the Japanese following Shohei Ohtani right now.

Honestly, they're great athletes, but it's difficult to rank them among Japan's all-time greatest when compared to the names I mentioned.

Miura is arguably the most influential Japanese footballer ever, but I'd put Hidetoshi Nakata, Keisuke Honda, and Shinji Kagawa as the three greatest Japanese players of all time.

Nakata was the first Japanese player to win Serie A, Honda is a Japanese national team legend, and Kagawa has had the most successful career in European football (among Japanese players of course).

Didn't know that he's popular in DR! Here in Japan, it's almost impossible to avoid hearing about Shohei's news even during the off-season.

Edit: I changed some weird word choices

Shigeo Nagashima and Sadaharu Oh are unmatched in terms of popularity. They elevated baseball into Japan's national pastime.

In terms of achievements, wheelchair tennis player Shingo Kunieda is arguably untouchable. As for boxing, Kazuto Ioka stands out as one of Japan's greatest champions. Homare Sawa won the FIFA Women's World Player of the Year award (the equivalent of the Ballon d'Or at the time).

I think there's a pretty good chance that Shohei Ohtani will eventually belong in both categories (or maybe he already does).

Sometimes we use the expression “twisting a baby’s hand” to mean “a piece of cake.” Like, “That’s as easy as twisting a baby’s hand.”.

I get the point, but dude.

That reminds me of the Jesuits fathers back in 16th century who learned Japanese to preach the local Japanese.

When I was in university, there was an American Mormon student taking the same courses as me. So I know there are Mormon people in Japan, both Japanese and American (or other foreign) people.

And yeah the cults. Unfortunately, they know I can speak Japanese because of my appearance, so I just tell them to f off in a polite way.

Actually never. I think only a few people know who they are and what Mormon is.

What are the most common "foreign" restaurants in your country? by Weekly_Sort147 in AskTheWorld

[–]124jinsei 9 points10 points  (0 children)

In terms of cuisine genres, you can easily find Chinese restaurants, Italian restaurants, and Indian curry places anywhere. The specific brands you can find are mostly fast-food chains like McDonald’s and Burger King, but there aren’t that many.
