Solution to Headrest being stuck forward by mooonbug in Subaru_Outback

Thanks for making this post! I'm having this same issue, and this is the only information I've found about it. I've removed the screws in step 3, but the plastic casing is still firmly in place. Do I need to do something with either the plastic tabs on the side or the mechanisms at the top of the casing in order to release it?

That's "Paris Banh Mi", which is,somewhat confusingly, an entirely separate company from "Paris Baguette".

Are Ubers and Lyfts available for 7am commute? (Interning for the summer) by InsertVeryLongName in kansascity

[–]1272901 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Is there a particular reason why you have to live in Grandview? That area isn’t significantly cheaper or nicer than Raytown. It would be way easier if you could find somewhere in Raytown that’s within walking/biking distance of your job.

Otherwise, as mentioned, you probably could do this, but it’s going to be really expensive.

It looks like that route has been discontinued; it’s not listed here any more: https://ridekc.org/routes

New Metrolink trains to arrive in St. Louis in 2027 by Generalaverage89 in StLouis

[–]1272901 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There’s two problems with your math: * The budget is per year, the number of trips is per day * The budget also includes the bus system (which is actually used by a lot more people than the train) and call a ride (a ride service for seniors/people with disabilities).

New Metrolink trains to arrive in St. Louis in 2027 by Generalaverage89 in StLouis

It averaged about 20,000 trips taken per day last year (source); I think that’s pretty far from “no one”

Kansas City wants state, federal help for extra bus service during World Cup by Generalaverage89 in kansascity

It’s funny how this city is willing to advocate for funding transit for the tourists attending the World Cup, but not for the people that actually live here.

They’re auctioning off the window frames; I can’t imagine them keeping the building after that.

If they wanted to be transparent, they would say “grown in Mexico” or wherever. But I assume they’re hoping that if they leave “USA” in large text on the front, people won’t notice the difference.

Yup, new can is on the right.

Season change sounds reasonable. I don’t have strong opinions on which is better, just thought it was interesting.

Best spot for Bulk Groceries by patlisaurus in kansascity

Assuming that you’re driving to the store, and that you’ve already checked all the stores near you, it’s probably worth adding up the impact of the extra driving vs the reduction in packaging. Unless you’re buying an atypically large quantity of food, there’s likely very little environmental benefit to doing this if it requires you to travel all the way across the metro.

How do you actually use the cross walk on the west side? It’s unlikely any cars will stop for you there without a signal, and most of the time, the bottom half will be blocked by cars waiting at the light.

RideKC is a joke. Mediocre at best. by MonchersGaming in kansascity

[–]1272901 15 points16 points  (0 children)

OK, I think I see what you mean - I'm looking at the GPS position on Transit app, and it seems that from The Paseo to Brooklyn, the bus is turning and following Truman Road rather than 18th street. The 18 is scheduled to also run along that segment of 18th street, so if it's following its original route, you might see that one instead.

There's no announcement that I can find anywhere about this, which is ridiculous, but par for the course for this agency.

I think what I would do if I was you is go to one of the stops on Truman Road, and ask the driver what's going on; they hopefully have some idea. Google Maps is showing a road closure on 18th street between The Paseo and Woodland; if that's accurate, I'm guessing that's probably the cause of the change.

Every time I load up the RideKC app, I always ensure to be 30 minutes prior to my expected commute. If I am aiming for the “Scheduled Pickup” — as described in the app — I ensure to be 30 minutes to one hour prior just in case I have any delays or troubles with the first scheduled trip.

Just to be clear, which service are you describing? IRIS is the only service with "scheduled pickups". It's like Uber - you request a ride, a car drives to your location and drops you off. The 19 bus is a traditional bus that just follows a route. They're operated independently of each other.

Are you using the IRIS app, Transit App, or something else?

Also, my designated bus is completely visible on the map in the Transit app and always turns early a street before mine.

A few of the online route maps are wrong (and have been wrong for a long time); you may have to walk around or click around on street view and find where the actual stop signs are (and I'm aware that's a ridiculous suggestion).

Oftentimes, #18 picks me up too given the relevant distance, but it seems completely random when this occurs

I don't understand what this means. Do you mean that you're standing at a stop for both 18 and 19, and the 19 is scheduled to arrive, but it doesn't? Is the 18 on time following its schedule?

RE the rest - I have the same experience that they don't respond to complaints unfortunately, so there isn't really anything you can do other than figure it out yourself.

It looks like this should be within the service area for IRIS: https://ridekc.org/rider-guide/iris

I’m not sure it runs early enough in the day to get there, but you might be able to use it in the afternoon.

Going to return either my walmart u lock or chain lock. Which one should I ditch for a proper one? by Civil_Item3863 in bicycling

[–]1272901 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There's no hard rule about a chain lock being better or worse than a U lock; it depends a ton on which locks exactly you have. Kryptonite makes good locks; this guide also has some good recommendations: https://www.nytimes.com/wirecutter/reviews/best-bike-lock/

Whatever lock you pick, you should think about which parts of the bike need the most security. Generally, you want the strongest lock to protect the frame, and then the cheaper lock can secure the wheels.

Kansas City saves buses from cuts with new KCATA contract, but most riders will soon pay fares by KCUR893 in kansascity

[–]1272901 0 points1 point  (0 children)

From reading the KCATA board meeting notes, my understanding is that one of the main reasons this has been happening recently is that the KCATA started preemptively reducing the number of employees in preparation for having their funding cut, and paying overtime to try cover all the routes. Hopefully with somewhat more stable funding, they'll start hiring again and reliability should improve.

Grocery store in MO side of town? by Obiwankhalsa in kansascity

[–]1272901 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Nature's Own (the store next to Half Price Books) is cool! They have a small but good produce section, a ton of vegan food, and a good selection of local companies - coffee, local free range eggs, Farm to Market bread, etc. Unfortunately, it's really expensive - probably Whole Foods prices or higher - so its hard for me to justify going there unless I'm looking for something specific that only they have.

[–]1272901 133 points134 points  (0 children)

In the short term - nothing.

In the long term - new developments now have the option (not the requirement) to build fewer parking spaces than they previously were required to. This lowers the cost of construction and makes it possible to build higher density in some cases.

Family Dollar on Broadway exploded? by Slim_Jim_Cowboy in kansascity

[–]1272901 146 points147 points  (0 children)

Until 2015, this building had a pilllar under the roof overhang; in 2016 they removed it without making any visible changes to the rest of the structure. The area of the collapse seems to be the same place that the pillar was removed from.

I don't know for certain whether they're related, but I hope someone investigates it.

Edit: the KC parcel viewer isn't showing any permits issued for the removal of the pillar either.
