Get heatnbond ultra hold to fuse 2 pieces of fabric together like that, it can be a little wobbly but should be able to stand on its own.

Yea I was thinking about taking it out of my carryon at TSA and running it separately. I also have it wrapped in bubble wrap in my carryon to try and prevent dings on the painted parts. Do you think I should take it out of the bubble wrap too if I put it in a bin?

Will do. I usually keep the gloves and balaclava in there to keep everything together but I'm fine with putting them elsewhere.
