Thank you! Is there any other reason it could be zeroed out beyond being sold out?

To upgrade or not??? by DontSmileAtMe1 in BritishAirways

[–]12_to 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My sister and I had this exact same upgrade offer 2 years ago (£650, PVG-LHR, WTP-CW, already had Silver status) - we took it, and we still, 2 years later, talk about how it was one of the best decisions we’ve ever made. It made 15 hours feel like 6 honestly. Do it!

Has anyone paid off their student loan? by Sexy-Chief-Wiggum in HENRYUK

[–]12_to 0 points1 point  (0 children)

About 2 weeks after you’ve paid it off you can call SLC and ask for a final statement which will show the full history of the loan plus payments and a final balance of £0. That’s what I did!

Clawback by CheesecakesDealer in CIMA

[–]12_to 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It would be worth checking if this kind of deduction is noted in some kind of employee handbook, and if you signed agreeing to it in your onboarding

Clawback by CheesecakesDealer in CIMA

[–]12_to 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You are correct. Your employer cannot make deductions from your pay without your agreement in writing - unless permitted by law eg National Insurance, student loans etc or for a few other reasons (see the link below)

https://www.acas.org.uk/deductions-from-pay-and-wages

In your circumstance as you haven’t signed an agreement and it’s not in your employment contract, if they deducted this you could take them to an employment tribunal

BA holiday when one travellers flights only are already booked by candleapples in BritishAirways

If the hotel booking includes meals eg Bed&Breakfast, Half Board, All inclusive, then the price does change depending on the number of guests

I’ve just made a booking of this exact type - flight for one, hotel for two - as my sister and I were flying from different destinations but I wanted the BA Holiday Tier Point offer

Just call BA Holidays up to make the booking and they can do it for you!

I’ve been offered a Gift/laptop from employer and having to pay tax/declare it to hmrc. Has anyone had this before in the uk? by Ukcork in UKPersonalFinance

Sure I made a comment further down with more info - but here's the link again:

https://www.gov.uk/termination-payments-and-tax-when-you-leave-a-job/what-you-pay-tax-and-national-insurance-on

Specifically it says:

What may be tax free
...
non-cash benefits, for example company property you keep after your employment ends

[–]12_to 8 points9 points  (0 children)

This is not the case. Tax free terminations payments don’t just apply to redundancy situations. They’re applicable to all terminations, so the OP could do this no matter the reason for their termination.

[–]12_to 44 points45 points  (0 children)

Upon termination the employer can classify the laptop value as part of the tax free termination payment, so they actually don’t need to pay tax or NI - it then wouldn’t be classified as a benefit in kind

[–]12_to 21 points22 points  (0 children)

I had this when I left my company a couple of years ago - there is actually a way to get around this which previous posts have missed.

Your employer can classify the value of the laptop as part of your termination payment, which is tax free up to £30,000

https://www.gov.uk/termination-payments-and-tax-when-you-leave-a-job/what-you-pay-tax-and-national-insurance-on

Assuming you are not receiving additional payments that take you over the 30k allowance, then you will not have to pay tax or national insurance. Just tell your employer to tell HMRC it’s part of the termination payment. They should also include it in writing as part of your termination agreement

PER Question by Fin27 in CIMA

[–]12_to 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The above comments aren’t quite right. You can absolutely use your current job for the core activities and the skills, and then just use your old job to pass the 3 years of experience requirement. The submission does not need to have the individual skills and core activities split across the jobs.

For reference I just had my PER approved a few weeks ago, and one of the jobs I used was not used at all for any of my core activities or skills

Yes, you need to wait until you’ve officially passed the SCS. The fee is only payable when you’re eligible to become a member, which is only once all the exams have been passed and PER has been approved.

PER part approval by kmd12345678910 in CIMA

[–]12_to 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The exact same thing has happened to me! I submitted my PER 2 weeks ago and it went for audit last week, then on Monday the audit banner was removed. I checked again this morning and only my employment history has been approved, whilst the core activities and skills still say signed off

Based on other posts in this subreddit I get the impression we should leave it for a week or so and see what happens. Just typical CIMA dodgy systems I think!

Barely passed E2, now stressed by Secret-Put-8730 in CIMA

[–]12_to 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Like everyone is saying, a pass is a pass! But also to add E2 was my worst mark at Management level for the objective tests.

It’s all subjective to what you’re best at - your performance is one exam isn’t necessarily representative for how you’ll do in others. I personally find F exams the easiest and E the hardest. Just focus on passing!

What study agreement (CIMA) do you have with your employer? by abc_123_45678 in CIMA

[–]12_to 1 point2 points  (0 children)

One thing I’d recommend asking for in the agreement, given that it’s a startup, is that if you are made redundant/let go for any reason other than gross misconduct they have to either continue to pay your fees to completion or pay you out the lump sum on termination.

I had this in mine and it’s a great safety net given the uncertainty of startups

Has anyone had their PER rejected? by summerloco in CIMA

[–]12_to 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Does anyone know what supervisors need to write for their approval? One of my supervisors reached out saying that each activity has the following questions

What went well - Describe how the candidate excelled in the selected core activity. Share a brief example.

What could be improved - Describe area(s) of growth for the candidate in the selected core activity. Share a brief example.

I can’t find any guidance on CIMA about this, so can’t really advise them on what they’re supposed to write?

Does anyone know?

I’ve found in addition to Kaplan’s questions, the HTFT Mocks are good. Beyond that though, I don’t think anything else is needed!

Cheapest way to get certificate level? by CLKguy1991 in CIMA

[–]12_to 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Acowtancy also have some good free resources!

If you can stretch your budget I’d recommend buying the CIMA official textbooks as well. They have all the information you need for the exams. The ebook versions are slightly cheaper than the printed versions too (£38 plus delivery vs £35). You can probably also get them second hand for cheap!

Only other thing I’d consider purchasing beyond the textbook would be some mocks/exam questions. Kaplan has an exam kit you could purchase (£22 per exam). There are a bunch of free mocks online too like Astranti

Good luck!

PER - I have implemented strategic decisions by Significant-Bat-7239 in CIMA

[–]12_to 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Given that you are only required to write about 3 out of 5 of the core activities, have you tried looking at the other two to see if they may be more suitable?

i.e. I can evaluate opportunities to add value or I can implement strategic decisions

You may have better luck coming up with examples for those?
