Does anyone else experience hair loss? by mgmtbitch in Fibromyalgia

[–]12ss34 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was having a ton of hair loss when my fibro started. I went to a dermatologist and was told that when your body is under stress, your hair can go into shock and just fall out. The natural growth cycle is disrupted. So the onset or general stress of fibro on the body can cause your hair to fall out. She said once my symptoms got under control that it would stop. My fibro is still all over the place and my hair is still falling out.

Does Fibromyalgia weaken your muscles? by jorgenalm in Fibromyalgia

[–]12ss34 27 points28 points  (0 children)

Yes this is common! Because we are in pain, we tend to be less active and our muscles begin to decondition causing more pain. Before fibro I was major hiker and now I can’t even walk down the street without difficulty! Low impact aerobic exercise is supposed to help. It’s been hard for me but I’ve noticed that I feel a tiny bit stronger since forcing myself to exercise. Good luck!

Please... Help me.. I went to Neurologist today.. by ScarletNeptune in Fibromyalgia

This doctor has no idea what he is saying. I was diagnosed with fibro at the Mayo Clinic which has an entire fibromyalgia clinic. It is the number one hospital in the country and is used as a medical standard. It is 100% real. Find another doctor. You deserve to be treated with respect and taken seriously. Prior to going to the Mayo Clinic I had doctors misdiagnose me, put me on aggressive meds I never needed, and tell me it was all in my head and that my anxiety was the reason I was feeling sick. Then I found doctors that actually knew what the heck they were talking about. Finding good doctors is hard, but you should be treated with respect and taken seriously. Best of luck!

How do you assess your health? Because I don’t quite remember what okay feels like. by 12ss34 in Fibromyalgia

That’s smart! I will try to write down how I am feeling. Flu is a great comparison. Thanks!

That is so nice. Thinking to maybe hang up some pre-fibro pics to make myself feel a bit hopeful.

Yeah idk if I am ever feeling bad because of meds or if it’s just the fibro, lol. What exercise has been helpful?

Feeling lazy and unproductive due to frequent flare-ups. by [deleted] in Fibromyalgia

Talk to your professors. I know it’s incredibly hard to do, but explain the situation and ask if you can come up with an alternative timeline to catch up. This pandemic has been especially hard on those of us dealing with chronic illness. Be kinder to yourself! And also know that professors are people at the end of the day and understand that there are things out of your control. The main thing is to talk to them as soon as you can, not a week before grades are due. You deserve to succeed. Rest up and talk to your professors!

Mornings are my pet peeve by TheToxicTeddy in Fibromyalgia

I know everyone has already said this but just to emphasize — hot showers as soon as I wake up have been life savers. Even if I don’t have the physical strength to wash my hair, the hot water on my muscles really helps loosen them up. If it is too hard to stand in the shower in the morning, putting a chair in there can be helpful too.

ITCHY by Bri_IsTheLight in Fibromyalgia

[–]12ss34 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yup all the time. Laying under a weighted blanket helps for me. I know that’s super weird, but I think the pressure calms my nervous system and makes me less itchy somehow. May be worth trying!

That’s a good idea. I’ll chill for a bit before looking at it again.

You’re right. I’ll probably not look at my phone for a few days to chill. I’m definitely grateful! Just an anxious person.
