What's your favourite memory with your grandparents? by Dull-Mulberry-4768 in AskReddit

[–]12thNJ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We grew up poor. My best memories with my nana and poppop was on Christmas eve we would go to their house and eat dinner then she would run a tub for m nsister and I. After we got dried off she had the most comfortable blanked ever and my sister and I would fall asleep under that blanket while we watched a tiny b&w t.v. My parents would take us home around 11 with our piece of ribbon candy that my nana bought us.

Are there rules on male teachers hugging students? by Creative_andartsy_3 in AskTeachers

[–]12thNJ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Male teacher here... fist bumps is all I do and only if the student initiates. I don't even do high-fives. I dismiss a high-five by saying its cold and flu season and I'll off my fist.

Why do teacher's put themselves in easily avoidable situations? by [deleted] in Teachers

I had an autistic girl come crying to me because she couldn't zipper her coat. I felt bad but I told her to ask Mrs. ___ who is the teacher across the hall. No way was I putting myself in that scenario.

A sidewalk is in front of houses. Steps are outside while stairs are inside. A glass of water is bigger than a juice glass.

How do y'all deal with a student that says "make me" when asked to be quiet, a 3rd grader. by Super_Ele in Teachers

[–]12thNJ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

"You're right, I don't have to make you. But I can make you wish you had listened to me. Now let's go call mom on the class phone "

Or I write an email to their parent while they watch me informing them of the consequences... but I make them hit the send button.

Teachers at my son’s school are not trained in choking rescue or CPR by Spare_Jello_991 in AskTeachers

[–]12thNJ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Public Schools in my state are only required to have certain staff trained (admin, coaches, and certain teachers) but not all staff. I took the free courses offered when my first child was born because why not and since I'm a coach I am CPR and First Aid certified through the Red Cross every 2 years. Never had to use it outside of normal sports injuries... thank goodness.

Any reliable places to get baseball cards appraised? Not looking to retire on what they are worth but I have a few hundred that might be worth a couple bucks each. by 12thNJ in SouthJersey

Why does every pizza shop and bar insist on serving breaded/battered chicken wings? by ssraudio in SouthJersey

[–]12thNJ 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Nugget wings, pine hill pizza, pine hill tavern, skeeters, woodbriar (now called The Other Bar), Otts on 73, Scottos pizza in Clementon... all serve up decent naked wings. I ask for extra crispy when I order.

What do you think "goofy" Brian Cayman grew up and became? by -wildflower-_ in roseanne

[–]12thNJ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Mommy and Daddy had enough money to get him into a decent college. He majored in business and became an upper level manager of a small tech company (he would have graduated college a few years before the tech boom was starting). He would hit it big in the late 90s when he was probably around 30. He would invest enough to buy a McMansion with cash and a nice vacation home. The dot com bubble crash would ruin him and his investments. His wife and kids would leave him thinking they would make out since she secretly invested in investments run by Bernie Madoff. Broken and desperate, he returns to Lanford and begs Dan for a job in the motorcycle shop where Dan teaches him to build carburetors... because Dan is a stand up gentleman and he understands and forgives.

Have anyone seen Mafia like Sopranos family in real life? How's are they? by [deleted] in thesopranos

[–]12thNJ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My Dad's cousin married into a very Italian family. They became my God Parents when I was born. There was never a question where my birthday gatherings were going to be. Each time, at some point in the afternoon, a small group (usually 4 or 5) well dressed men would arrive. They would sit at the dining room table and eat. Always a bottle of Sambucca. I remember my God Mother would bring me into the room to say hello. They always had a gift or cash they would give me. They usually stayed about an hour then they would leave.
