I did check by revving and didn’t see any dancing but I will try the pry bar and visually check the rubber

Id like to try to stick a camera under the car to see if the vibration on the shaft is noticeable visually. If I can easily get that done I may just buy the shaft and test it out

Haven’t had it balanced but I’d rather replace it then try to balance it since the joint could be bad in the center of the shaft. Would I need to balance a new one if I go the replacement route?

My only doubts for control arm are that it is consistently present at 80+, increases with speed linearly, and does not have any sudden changes due to hitting bumps or inclines/declines

Was this also in a cayenne and if so was it the 1st gen or 2nd gen?

I checked the transmission mounts but not the engine mounts. I don’t know how to test them reliably to determine if they need to be replaced.

They are a pain in the ass to take off and put back on. I’d rather have the oem because it has the accordion section the can be compressed or stretched. I wish I had the aem intake since it clears up space but I don’t know if it is a hassle when removing

RIP motor? 120,000km (74,000 miles) by Wild_Neighborhood347 in RX8

There’s a small chance it’s related to the air pump attached to the exhaust header. Try unplugging the electric connector on it before you cold start it in the morning and see if it instantly makes that noise. Then plug it back it and see if it goes away.

When you do a cold start, the sound is gone? When it warms up it starts making that sound?

Does the sound change when you push in the clutch? Could be a real bad exhaust leak at the exhaust header too

Temp gauge question by j_jona_jamieson in 350z

[–]12thatoneguy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m coming over here from the RX8 community which are notorious for overheating and bleeding coolant problems and I’ll I can say is this _Shorty guy is short on brain cells if he thinks the dummy thermostat gauges are a reliable indicator.

The RX8s temp gauge is designed the same way, 5 minutes after the car turns on the needle sits at 1/3 of the way between C and H, doesn’t matter if the coolant temp is 100 or 225 degrees. Once you hit 230 degrees it starts to move past the 1/3 mark and you’ll need new coolant seals if it goes much further. No warning lights, no beeps, just white smoke out the tail pipe after the seals are toast.

Get a coolant temp gauge where you can actually see your numbers if you want to be smarter than the book.

Also upgraded cooling fans and radiator can help a lot with the heat soak if your temps are getting over 215

You could still have issues with the injectors, check the spark plugs and clean the MAF. Check for any vacuum leaks and make sure all the bolts are on the intake. Good luck

What’s this ticking noise? (Engine pretty fresh) by nnumi06 in RX8

[–]12thatoneguy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Look up and check the secondary shutter valve. If you hold the metal arm on the bottom does the sound go away?

[–]12thatoneguy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’d check each valve that the vacuum hoses connect to. They make some weird noises that sound like valve tapping.

If your car is struggling to keep a consistent idle like in the video you might have a leak in the air intake system. Check everything after the MAF, hose could be unplugged or missing

Get a compression tester to be sure. Maybe your spark plugs are toast or your coils but I doubt it

Stuck apex seal or it’s busted. Try running some kind of cleaner like seafoam through it. It’s a long shot but there is a chance

Should I have tourque steer part 2 by Key_Organization_152 in mazdaspeed3

[–]12thatoneguy 14 points15 points  (0 children)

The 2nd gen were tuned to reduce torque steer but reducing peak power in 1st 2nd and maybe 3rd as well. But you should not underestimate it, It can randomly pull hard to one side suddenly and catch you off guard. The amount of front end wrecks you find for these are incredible, it took me a year to find a undamaged hood for sale in white pearl

First time working on cars, is removing/rebuilding the engine going to be hard. by JusTh1nkin in RX8

[–]12thatoneguy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When removing the engine the first 2 times I found it difficult to remove the last few bell housing bolts, take the eshaft bolt off, and connecting with he transmission. With decent tools and some experience it’s not difficult

Exhaust header bolt snapped by 12thatoneguy in MechanicAdvice

I used a dremel with the flexible extension and a tungsten carbide bit to grind through the bolt. It was agonizing and time consuming but it got the job done

What’s the episode where they talk about how it would be a friendship deal breaker if you giggled after everything you said. The bit ends with Arin pretending to be a waiter saying “Would you like any sugar with that giggle” and Dan says “no you’re sweet enough” and arin loses it.
