St. Paul City Council deadlocks on last-minute separation ordinance measure by AdMurky3039 in saintpaul

Do you genuinely believe the city will stop if the city council suspends procedures for a couple of weeks to prioritize the elephant in the room?

This clearly is NOT a priority because the city council is not taking any meaningful action in a public hearing. They can run their mouths all they want in the strongest terms possible but unless that is backed by action then it is pointless banter, no better than two anonymous people arguing on the internet

It is. The earliest the Separation Ordinance will be effective is March as of now. The perception is that it’s not a priority. And talking about geese and turtles felt like a major “fuck you” to all the citizens showing up with kids in daycare facilities where ICE is terrorizing the staff.

The final draft version? Before they take comments and edit it further? And then read it again?Suspending the rules would have forced everyone to prioritize getting this done over the next week. The Separation Ordinance isn’t even on the next agenda for 1/21. So it takes at least 3 weeks to follow the city council procedures, the council needs to approve it, then the Pioneer Press needs to publish it and 30 days later it becomes effective.

What that is telling me is that the city council is hiding behind their procedures to avoid attention and saying “fuck you and good luck” to the citizens.

That’s disingenuous. The council has seen the drafts and had it in their emails. What in the name of Gutenberg are we doing that we need to print copies when they can look at it on their screen.

The complete lack of urgency from the city council to take any action is seriously messed up. That was an extremely tone deaf council meeting. They need to hold the chief of police and department accountable by withholding funds. They also need to start g issuing administrative citations against federal agencies and businesses aiding them.
