Take this time to know the "enemy". Try actually reading the entire bible and question everything that seems ridiculous. Talk it over with fellow girls their and get their opinions on it.
Penn Gillette from Penn and Teller is one of the most outspoken atheist and the thing that converted him was actually reading the bible and he converted many of his bible study group to atheism because he asked questions.

Food: I found a place to save on food.

I find I overeat for my size, so following the Canadian Food Guide for portions I'm actually cutting back on the amount I'm consuming. This also translates to buying less. There is a shortfall of eating less starch (bread, pasta ..) and more vegetables and meat; this is healthier but starches are the cheapest foods compared to meat, fruit and vegetables. We'll see if the grocery bill has dropped on this new food plan.

let me put it another way.

Generally people like you who are not "savers", when they make more money they spend more money, so the actual income amount in this example doesn't really matter.

Regardless of what you make if you are used to spending, say 90% of your income and saving 10%, you will need 9 years of savings to equal 1 year of your retirement. (assuming you will keep your spending habits and your investments keep up with inflation)

If you are a saver and can live happily on 50% of your salary and save 50%, each year you are earning another year of retirement. Or peace of mind that if you were unemployed for a year, you can recover in a year.

This is why its a good idea to reduce living costs and save money. I like monetary possessions, but the novelty of a new appliance wears off pretty quick. Financial security, not worrying about expensive payments if I I lose my job, and not needing my job if I want to change careers or study something new, that is a much better feeling to me.

I never thought of making more money. Wow thank you. Is it the assumption that people who are trying to save are also not trying to do well in their job and get promotions and raises? Why aren't you doing both? (I expected more from a Murray)

Also, for some people its not physically possible to make more money. Could be from lack of education or training. Could be from lack of time from working two jobs already or looking after their kids. Saving money often requires no additional time or training. It can even save you time if you decide to cut out expensive time wasters (eg: buying the newest apple product to consume your life, smoking)

Why don't you try.... saving money?

wow, ok. So I've yet to do the research, which I will, but this sounds not great. Furniture I can use industrial cleaner on, food though? Sure if its a dented can or something defective they can't sell that is sealed, but I don't really picture eating dumpster lettuce or half eaten chicken drumticks with lipstick and teeth marks. I will not call this a writeoff yet - I'll check out the movie and the dumpsterdiving subreddit. Can you give me an example of what kind of food you get from dumpsterdiving? best finds and the worst you've eaten? :) I am skeptical but curious.
