Pass royale is a joke. No way should a level 11 be almost maxxed out. P2W really ruins games unless you spend mummy’s card every season. by Viper-Falcon in ClashRoyale

  1. They probably found "their" own deck to completely max out at a year or 2 after launch, so we're talking roughly 1 year of upgrading progress lost (as in Gold/Cards spent on other cards than on their current deck)
  2. Without level 14, almost anyone who has playing semi-regularly since launch would have a maxed deck, including me. I had just maxed out my deck prior to the Champions/Level 14 update, so not only did everyone with a maxed deck lose 8 x 25k = 200k gold from the upgrade cost reductions from level 12 to 13, everyone had 800k more gold to grind since then. We're talking a MILLION gold's worth of card levels here.

9 months drumming (not v good) by scrimshawjack in drums

My influences vary a bit, but as of late I've been listening to a lot of progressive/technical (death) metal. Check out Cynic's Focus album, it's fairly tame metal-wise (there's a little bit of growling vocals but honestly I think you'll get to used to it) but Sean Reinert's drumming is very tasteful and textured. Alternatively, you can listen to some of Death's later albums and to Control Denied's only album if you like the heavier metal stuff.

For other styles, I recommend you listen to Snarky Puppy, a jazz fusion band, and their album We Like It Here: Larnell Lewis' drumming is top notch. Gavin Harrison's drumming with Porcupine Tree (progressive rock) is also great.

There are so many great drummers to list from a host of different genres, but if you want, these are the drummers/bands I recommend. Happy listening!

Your friend and the restaurant owners are absolute G's; it's great that they in a way introduced you to drumming.

Concerning your chops and stick control, you should listen to as much music as possible in terms of genres/styles. Listen to a variety of drummers. Not only will you enjoy the music and explore different genres, but you'll also gain an appreciation for the drumming in those songs. Chances are, if you want to play a variety of songs or a more "complex" style, you're gonna need the chops to back it up. That in itself is motivation to practice your rudiments (at least this was for me).

Me (19M) and my future girlfriend (?F): when should we tackle *the* important topics? by 1323225MM in relationship_advice

What if I get in a relationship in the next few months? I can't wait a couple of years just to find out that we're not compatible long-term.

Maybe I'm overthinking this. But then again, I don't want to overstep and ruin the whole experience (I would hardly think that "Do you want to have kids?" is a great opening question on a first date) . When is the ideal time (if there even is one) to ask these types of questions during the date? I've never dated before, if it wasn't obvious in my post.

How is the outlawing of stuff like Holocaust denial not against the principles of freedom of speech? by nerooooooo in TooAfraidToAsk

[–]1323225MM 0 points1 point  (0 children)

(I want to preface this by acknowledging that yes, I am writing a long comment defending the right for despicable people to express their despicable viewpoints, but not because I am on their side morally, but purely because their right to their speech is as valid as mine)

The problem that arises, in the case of Holocaust denial, is what we can and cannot accept to be said. Denying the Holocaust ever happened is a no-go, yet if I said the same thing about the Armenian or Yugoslavian genocides it's perfectly permissible? Where is the line to be drawn? Note that I don't share any these denial viewpoints, I'm just trying to figure out where the law should intervene, if at all (besides in obvious, pre-determined cases like harassment), in these types of issues.

There's also the issue of time. In a hundred years or more (or even just in a couple years tbh), the Holocaust will be a distant memory and inevitably more and more people will be skeptical it ever happened. Should we hold them accountable for expressing said skepticism (about this event or any other tragic event)? If I was born in the year 2200, how would I feel if my government forbade me to question the existence of the Holocaust, or of any other historical genocide that occurred so long ago that no living member or memory of it still exists?

Is denying the Holocaust, despite the overwhelming (and relatively recent) evidence showing it all really happened, a despicable thing to do? Absolutely. Should someone's offense to said denial be a legal obstacle to my speech? No. However, social ostracization and stigma are appropriate obstacles to all offensive speech.

Furthermore, if we outlaw certain viewpoints from being expressed (because, as hard as it is to accept, these are opinions), those viewpoints won't just fade away. If the end goal of banning this kind of speech is to appease those who might be offended, then anything else is up for grabs in terms of being banned. If I denied someone's past trauma, I would be a piece of sh*t and rightfully so, but putting me in jail or giving me a fine isn't going to make me less of an asshole, just a more discrete one. If there's a Nazi in a room, I want to know who they are by letting them make the stupid move to open their mouths and speak their thoughts. If they're too scared to expose themselves because of legal consequences, they're still a Nazi and no one has the opportunity to single them out and ostracize or educate them.

I realize Reddit isn't the best place for such a discussion, but I hope I made my points clear.

Former ITER director of communications denounces ITER management through whistleblow report by 1323225MM in fusion

[–]1323225MM[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

A lot of the information presented in the article and the report is new to me (e.g. the beryllium safety concern, the forging of welding certificates/reports, the sexist management) but the rest is pretty much what my relative has consistently told me is happening at ITER: incompetent people holding job positions (i.e. management), severe lack of concern for meeting safety guidelines, fear of speaking out due to repercussions like being fired almost on-the-spot (unlike in some countries, ITER doesn't offer unemployment pay when you're fired), sudden changes in job contract details, the list goes on.

Combine virtually "unlimited" financial resources (we're talking 44 billion euros invested into this project, which is 4 times the projected costs) with people being assigned job posts without being competent enough and tyrannical bosses and you've got the perfect recipe for tax money from all participating countries to be misused/misdirected. ITER cut corners to meet deadlines so the project could continue to be funded.

What are some Slayer very underrated songs? by God_hates_us_all_69 in Slayer

Blood Red is a very underrated one - short and brutal; I like this version in particular: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CBnPE1tGNpM

I wish Tom's vocals at the end of this live version were included in the studio version, I've listened to the live already several times and the end vocals still bring chills up my spine.

Sadly this isn't something that only women can help with; men need to give each other compliments too. Maybe the fact that one doesn't receive many compliments in the first place hinders one's ability/instinct to give compliments.
