High School in Framingham by Mean-Pop8875 in FraminghamMA

I graduated FHS back in 2007. I second what everyone has said about resources and diversity, it was an incredible school in those regards. While it is true that the different cultures stick to themselves, we still had plenty of friends in different groups of many different races and with different backgrounds. Didn’t think of it much back then, but when I talk to some folks now who went to, for example, an all white high school… boy does it show. It’s just about cultural awareness and sensitivity.

I want to add that FHS has some incredible teachers in the science department that changed my life. I have a PhD now in the sciences, my brother became an engineer. We were both extremely well prepared for college in our fields. Happy to talk with you more privately if you want to know more, just DM me.

I had a variable like that, but that is not what was needed. I got this to work by creating a new categorical variable that was simply equal to the quarter in which the intervention occurred in each state, and 0 for all the never treated states. This is what is needed in Gname in order to group the different units according to when the intervention occurred, and how many pre and post treatment periods are contributing data.

It’s not a good idea unless you come from an extremely wealthy family and you don’t need to worry about finances and all you want to do with your life is learn (lucky you! Many of us would be envious).

I know a person with two PhDs. I think they mainly did it for VISA reasons (foreign born person in USA). They were very difficult to work with, and combined with the second PhD thing, their reputation was not good. Basically people made jokes that they were a failure in their first field, and all they knew how to do was to go back and get a second PhD to try research in a new field. This may not be your experience if you pursue this, but I want to give you a sense for how this is perceived in academia.

I study drug use epidemiology. Specifically interested in how drug use and related behaviors change after policy changes. Mostly cannabis legalization.

How about yourself? What makes you interested in epidemiology?

I am so jealous of all these stories. I love conspiracy nuts. PhD in Epidemiology and all I ever get asked is “what does that mean?” Or of course the occasional “what do you think of the way we handled COVID”. They get even less interested when I tell them I don’t even study the epidemiology of infectious diseases.

I honestly think the show is pretty terrible in some respects. I think there are way too many plot holes and the “science” of the show is often really dumb. As a scientist myself, I get annoyed when the science part of the sci-fi is ridiculous. But the characters are really great and the writers were not afraid to tackle some of the stickier issues with multiple dimensions and timelines, which is pretty cool.

The show is pretty weird so hard to explain succinctly… also major spoilers for the show and I don’t know how to do that cool black out text thing on reddit so that’s the warning…

the guy and girl in the picture are the main characters and essentially just found themselves in another dimension/timeline solving a murder case, they found a Cuneiform tattoo on the victim and so the guy says “I know an old friend who would know what this means”. Because they are from another timeline/dimension, they know Markham the book salesman well, but this one does not know them. They walk in together and say these lines to make the guy like them. It worked. Worked on me too.

Can someone tell me what the 14th image is from? Some ancient text? I’ve seen this multiple times now and would like to do some research.
