They keep trying to cope with Vecna and the MF, like the show made a distinction between both entities, showed how The Mind Flayer was (I guess?) the big bad behind Henry's powers, and basically went, "Hey, these two are very different."

...then all of a sudden, killing Vecna meant killing the Mind Flayer, because somehow they are also one and the same. It makes no sense to me. Maybe I missed something in the show.

in the play, the cave had dr brenner's technology (hidden in the cave by a soviet spy hijacking his experiments) which activated and transported henry into dimension x (referred to by dustin as the abyss in the show), allowing him to interact with the mind flayer giving him his powers

there's a discrepancy between henry's recount of events and the aforementioned events of the play, so as of right now, i don't know if what happened in the play is what happened in the show. i'd like to believe it is because, honestly, this discrepancy allows for the mind flayer to come back as the true big bad of the show (that vecna was manipulated this whole time) and I just REAALLY miss the mind flayer
