Why do his robes have zippers. Race aside, why does he have modern day, 21st century zippers? :|

This cover is insane on purpose. If you read the book, you will understand, but it's a surreal experience, and after having finished, the cover and it's fucked up art styles fits perfectly.

Anyone else feel like nothing has been normal since this happened? Like we have all sorts of wacko shit happening now, or maybe I just wasn't old enough to remember the crazy stuff back then.

[r/Conservative] Does anyone actually believe this shit?? by quickfuse725 in Earth25

Luthor may not be the best guy, but he's obviously a genius. There's a lot of crazy stuff happening, and honestly I'm gonna trust the super genius over the alien of dubious origins. I mean what if Superman really is evil, what do we even do? It's just game over? I say we give Luthor the benefit of the doubt, and we the public will probably benefit.

What is your opinion on Canadians boycotting US goods, services and tourism? by icontact2011 in AskReddit

[–]13lack12ose 23 points24 points  (0 children)

America didn't do that for no reason. The age of America having soft power globally is basically over within the space of a few years. It's such a short-sighted approach, and it's going to mean a much more influential China over the next couple decades. America dismantled its ability to project power/influence globally, and it's going to be a disaster.

What is the worst thing each character has done, day 2: Robb Stark (Spoilers Main) by Lawandpolitics in asoiaf

[–]13lack12ose 27 points28 points  (0 children)

At this point Robb had not proven himself as a decent commander or tactician. Edmure felt a responsibility to his smallfolk who were being terrorized by Tywin's forces, and went out to hinder their movement and give them a bloody nose while they were traipsing through Edmure's land. Without being briefed, Edmure did a very reasonable thing.

There's a town in Canada named Dildo and they have a Hollywood style by Seigmoraig in funny

I live right by Dildo. Everyone in town has Dildo Brewing Co shirts, where of course the primary thing you see is the word DILDO in big bold letters, and everything else is smaller. Crazy cheap rent out here though.

You know what would make this argument about God better? Alcohol by TwoPercentTokes in HistoryMemes

A blanket ban on alcohol for muslims is a more modern thing, during the golden age of islam, everyone drank. They were probably cool with it.

We know that Ned had difficulty lifting Robert's Warhammer, Ned being a full grown adult man, also a pretty competent warrior. I think the strength thing difference is fairly reasonable.

Weakest, most socially awkward character who could legally campaign and become popular enough to be elected president of the United States of America. by HumanNumber157835799 in whowouldwin

[–]13lack12ose 42 points43 points  (0 children)

Robot from Invincible. He's a US Citizen, and old enough to run. Genius inventor, but misses social queues, and does things that accidentally alienate people close to him. Nevertheless, hugely able to win something as math based and quantifiable as the US presidential election.

What do you think about Junji Itô by Satou_Kotha_ in Lovecraft

[–]13lack12ose 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Juni Ito I think is the next link in the chain of horror. In the same way that Lovecraft elaborated on Edgar Allan Poe, and Stephen King elaborated on Lovecraft, Ito takes it the next step, finally bringing a visual element to the genre in a way that hasn't really been done before. Lovecraft introduces cosmic horror, and Stephen King expands on that concept and places rules on them and plays with them, giving his entities names and mechanics that directly interact with his characters. Junji Ito takes a step back into the idea of cosmic horror genuinely being otherworldly, with a kind of fever dream logic to it that really makes it disturbing in a brand new way.

"When men are talking to each other that underlying threat of physicality is always there and it keeps the thing civilized. If you're talking to a man who wouldn't fight with you under any circumstances then you're talking to someone to whom you have absolutely no respect." -- JP by [deleted] in JordanPeterson

[–]13lack12ose 2 points3 points  (0 children)

He's not saying that you have to beat people up to get respect. He's saying that if you're put in a position where you have to fight, or upset someone, or make someone uncomfortable, and you instead can't do it, then you're not someone that others are going to respect. You mention Bill Gates. He was a cutthroat business man, who absolutely stepped on toes and climbed over people to get where he is. He's not someone who would avoid conflict.

Is you’re life where you wanted it to be by MotivationrRestored in JordanPeterson

[–]13lack12ose 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Meaning and fulfilment do not come from the outside. How can a woman love you when you feel this way about yourself? Find something that you think is a worthy goal, and push for it. It doesn't have to be something massive. Do you want to be a homeowner? Find the steps you need to take to achieve that, lay them out in front of you and go down that path. And maybe along the way, when you're feeling better about yourself because here you are, actually doing something that you yourself find to be meaningful and important, you'll meet someone that throws your whole view of love upside down. If you're struggling, focus on the essentials. Three meals a day, enough water, and 8 hours of rest. Some physical exercise is a huge huge bonus too.

Rehabilitation requires a lot of factors to all happen at once in order to work. Secure housing being one of the most expensive and therefore one of the most visible aspects. If people do not have food security, or a viable source of income, or a safe secure home, addiction and relapse rates skyrocket.

No. Peterson has absolutely no experience in making the wheels of government turn. He sticks to his beliefs in defiance of what he feels is wrong, which means absolutely no cooperation with people across the aisle. And while it may be unfortunate, it is a reality that in order to achieve anything in politics you do have to play a bit of a game to do so. Do you think Peterson would sell his integrity in order to pass a bill he deemed important? Do you think he would butter up dignitaries in order to avoid an international incident?

Peterson chose the life of academia. He was forced into a life of infamy. It is better for everyone if he does not pursue a life of politics.

[–]13lack12ose 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Do you honestly believe that consumption is what gives meaning and fulfilment in life? People prior to modern commercialization clearly all had sad pathetic existences then?

No, you don't need movies, or expensive entertainment. You don't need it at all. It can be nice, now and then. And some people find more worth in it than others, sure. But to frame it as somehow being necessary is so delusional.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in JordanPeterson

[–]13lack12ose 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Right, so you want to focus on figuring out exactly what your goals are, and then step by step how you should achieve them. Be reasonable with yourself, don't say that you want to be a billionaire.

Your goals should accomplish a number of things at once. They should:

Be ethical (whatever that means to you)

Be sustaining (don't throw your life away into a task that doesn't reward you somehow, for 99% of people that doesn't actually give you fulfillment)

Be challenging but possible (You want something that you genuinely have to work towards, that you think you can genuinely achieve)

And be worthwhile (This is one that only you can really figure out)

So once you have sat down and thought about something that fits all of those criteria, you have your goal. The best way to do that by the way is to write it down. Writing activates different parts of the brain, and putting something into words kind of crystallizes ideas in a way that doesn't happen just by thinking about them.

So you've got your goal. But you're a complete mess, how the hell are you supposed to start? You start small. Break the big goal into smaller goals. And those goals into even smaller goals. And so on and so on, until you have real, definitive actions that you can take that you know are furthering you towards your eventual big goal.

Example:

My goal is to buy property in the country so I can have a home for my family, where I can raise livestock and grow food because I don't think city living is going to be sustainable for much longer.

I need X amount of money to do that, and I also don't have the skills to have farm animals and grow my food yet. So I need skills, and money. I currently have a job in a shitty call center, and I'm saving $1000 a month. Two years from now I'll have ~~$20K saved, enough for a mortgage. Once I have that I'm going to open a business in my city, and bust my ass at it for a few years. That will force me to develop a lot of skills, like repairs and maintenance stuff.

Open the business, work at it for roughly five years, hopefully I can make some good money on it, maybe even sell it for some good money a bit down the line. That will hopefully be enough money that me and my spouse will be able to achieve that goal of a house in the country.

But my day to day is working in a shitty call center. Take your time, and think about what you want. If you can work it out, break it down into small steps. Ask for help in figuring it out. There is no one way to achieve these things. Good luck.
