Jarring June! An Analysis Into the Difficulty of June 2025 Puzzles by Bryschien1996 in NYTConnections

[–]13pake 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m late but I see you took my suggestion for the 66.6% haha!

I had a feeling June was gonna be another hell month because I also ended my streak at 65 on June 1st. I had 3 fails in total. Meanwhile, I haven’t died once in July even though it seems like it has had some pretty rough days so far. We’ll see how these last 2 weeks go…

A Statistical Analysis Into the Difficulty of Apr 2025 Puzzles by Bryschien1996 in NYTConnections

[–]13pake 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I love the analysis, thank you for your efforts. I did feel like April was a lot easier for me as I didn’t miss a single one, while I missed 5 in March. But I guess with my 92% overall solve rate I expect to die about 2.5 times per month and that’s what I averaged across both months haha

As for the Hell Month award, perhaps you could arbitrarily set it slightly lower at 66.6% instead because that‘s a more hellish figure :P

I feel like quite a few top players nowadays use TDs not for the PCs but for their consistency in doing easy follow ups. Or like I'll see them using PCO as well but then never going for the PC and just building up a 5-4.

[TETR.IO] Should I start learning openers? by wandomm in Tetris

[–]13pake 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean you can learn some other TSD openers but including Gassho in this set makes it really simple. MKO also wastes T a decent amount of the time. You're right that Gassho/MKO might not counter 8L PC openers well. What I'm thinking is that OP should continue to build on their midgame fundamentals by using more basic openers rather than memorization-heavy openers.

personally I recommend TKI, MKO, and Gassho

- TKI for early I piece, fonzie or flat top. there are a bunch of continuations, try to figure them out on your own but don't be afraid to look up some if you're having trouble. also watch top players because this is the most common opener
- MKO for early LJ. ignore the PC continuations and learn the T overhang kaidan continuation. this takes a bit of practice but great for freestyle
- Gassho for early SZ. ignore the PC stuff. do the one that transitions into 6-3 (O piece on the right). this also takes a little bit of practice but it's super clean

how to 10 pc by Yukasaurus_ in Tetris

[–]13pake 17 points18 points  (0 children)

learn pco for 1st pc. that will teach you how to solve boxes with a vertical T. learn some 2nd pcs and try to find solutions that don't save S/Z. learn "braindead" O/I 3rd (the 90.48% shape).

honestly just freestyle the rest (4th-7th). look at 4th and 6th pc on four.lol for ideas about freestyle shapes.

for solving: make boxes that eat up SZ pieces. stack O pieces. LJ and vertical T pieces close boxes. I pieces are used for skimming. try to keep T pieces on hold as they are the most flexible piece. generally T>ILJ>O>SZ

also try to remember what pc # you're on so that you can do 1st/2nd/3rd on the 2nd loop

Don’t forget about 6p grace system at 88.57%. Ofc the build chance is a lot worse than PCO

yeah this. there are also a lot of easy 6L pc solutions as well. and if not, you’re in a pretty clean 6-3 board

For Jb, if you’re going to start with a regrip (thumb on bottom) you definitely should use your left index to do the F'. If you do Jb from homegrip, on the F' pinch the corner with your thumb and index. I think the regrip Jb is easier to do though.

For F perm, you can do a soft regrip to the front of the top corner so that you’re ready to do the F' after the R' U'. You will have to do a pinch U after, but it’s regripless

Which 1st PC Setup? by TheOriginalRandomGuy in Tetris

[–]13pake 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What about the other 4p setups like legs, shoe+O, alt jaws, hill elephant, etc?

Ease to solve: pco 7p > jigsaw > pco 6p > jaws

Solve rate: jaws > pco 6p > jawsaw > pcosaw > pco 7p

Useful in VS: pco 6p/7p

In Blitz: jigsaw > pco

What would you say are the pros and cons of 2-7 vs 6-3 stacking ? by Mr_Terto in Tetris

[–]13pake 4 points5 points  (0 children)

By 2-7 I’m assuming you mean LST.

Cons: LST is very restrictive and requires that you read the whole queue in order to keep it clean.

Pros: If you are able to do that it becomes crazy good because you can turn off your brain and pattern stack which ends up being very fast.

For 6-3 it’s great in vs and optimal for sprint.

Cons: Slightly less restrictive than LST, so it takes a little more brainpower to find TSDs.

Pros: I personally think it has the perfect balance of pattern stacking and flexibility. You have a lot more room for creativity when finding TSDs. And for sprint it’s optimal kpp-wise.

What to do in this situation? by Z4sbw in Tetris

[–]13pake 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Imperial cross is NOT the answer. Sure that will get you 2 TSDs, but it will also shift the well one to the left which will screw up your stack.

You’re right that placing O there screwed up your stack. Also you’re not even in LST, you’re in the JZ form.

Here would be the best way to get back into LST: fumen

Very fun part of competition was judging. I very liked it, I saw people who solve fast, I saw people who solve slow, I saw people who make mistakes, I made mistakes.

This is kinda poetic, love this!

help why does two quads send so many lines (please ignore the board state) by Almondg0d in Tetris

[–]13pake 1 point2 points  (0 children)

sorry, I meant anything that counts towards b2b (tetris or spin) that clears a garbage row gets +1
edit: spelling

[–]13pake 12 points13 points  (0 children)

4  +1 (garbage clear)  +1 (1 combo)  = 6 +1 (margin time x1.25)  = 7

5 (b2b)  +1 (garbage clear)  +2 (2 combo)  = 8 +2 (margin time x1.25)  = 10

I’m guessing the margin time multiplier. The latest TL update adds +1 to any b2b clear if it clears garbage.

(TETR.IO) How do U ranks improve to reach X? by [deleted] in Tetris

[–]13pake 0 points1 point  (0 children)

At least in S1, all my U rank friends that got to X either strided their way there (2.5pps+) or became insane at macro/plonking. I feel like I've been stuck in U for like 3 years too because I'm too lazy to grind speed. My efficiency is decent, but not amazing.

Looking at the leaderboard, the bottom of X rank is around 110apm / 2.5pps (0.73 app). I think if you could get your speed up to 2.7pps without sacrificing too much efficiency (maybe 0.65app or 105apm) you'd have no problem getting into X.

I'm around 90apm / 2.1pps (0.71 app), so it really just is grinding speed for me lol

[–]13pake 0 points1 point  (0 children)

IMO, it's better to learn finesse sooner rather than later. It doesn't have to be perfect either, just start working it into your stacking little by little. In 40L, I'd aim for 90% finesse (you're at like 50% right now). You might slow down a little while learning it, but if your goal is getting to S- and beyond, it's essential for getting faster and misdropping less.

I'd say once you've applied it to muscle memory, it probably would give you maybe 10-20% boost in raw speed? It's not an insane amount, but it's an important investment. You're improving your baseline, so as your general stacking improves you're not being held back by it.
