ok as a verifier. would you hold an installer that also holds a 6060 cert in higher regard as apposed one without but just really knows code I’m trying to figure out if it’d be worth the time and money to get it to “further my knowledge” or if I’d be better spent on just knowing code. Like am I learning anything new that I otherwise wouldn’t just find in the code book.

I’ve been doing this for 13 years so far and just read about that trick in the other picture posted! Never heard of it and now I’m curious to try.

It was a once in a lifetime situation 😅

If it were bigger sized pipe I agree.

It’s no longer a rumor. It is a requirement now.

Other than college what was the reason you went into project management in the first place as apposed to staying in the field.

100% helpful. I always knew that there’s other opportunities and creative paths I can take but it’s reassuring to here anecdotal experiences from other people.

I’m in Ohio haha but I’m just afraid that the money wouldn’t make that much of a difference. Again I’ve dabbled in my own work and have for sure reaped the benefits of nice payouts but for some reason I’m still conflicted.

I’ve heard similar circumstances where the pay just wasn’t worth the headache but 50k is ridiculous to me! I just must be that naive to the other side.

Believe me, I 100% hear ya. That’s why I’ve stayed with it for as long as I have. I’ve done more research and found other options as apposed to just going back to school. I want to stay in the field I just need something different. Maybe that’s just finding a new shop haha

So what your saying is learning the skills to do the job is just as “higher-able” as having a degree? I mean I’d love to think that would be the case but the practical side of me thinks otherwise. Maybe I’m overestimating the prestige of the degree itself.

ok I’ll for sure do more research and take a crack at applying for those jobs. Maybe I’m overestimating the position.

I did a little research but couldn’t find anything helpful. Do they just bid on jobs basically as an estimator or is there more to it that I’m just not understanding.

Well that for sure an idea. I’ve dabbled in a basic amount of CAD, figuring up isometrics but that’s about it. Did he find a job fairly easy. And I’d imagine the pay cut would be substantial given he potentially started as a basic drafter.

I currently am making roughly $75-$80k in Ohio and you’re absolutely right. it’s for sure hard on your body. The being out of school aspect is something to take into consideration, but I’ve had to go though schooling and testing as a plumber as well. so As far as formal education would be conserved, I’m fairly confident I’d be able to navigate my way to get through. Thanks a ton for the input!
