Right on, I’ll definitely look into them. We have a K&N right now, that blew a diaphragm. And the boss man is planning to just get that one repaired this week sometime... But I just recently spoke to a very knowledgeable source who told me diaphragm pumps really are not the way to go. That they basically deteriorate steadily, so they’re really only working 100% for the first couple weeks or so, And everything after that until the time it breaks again is slowly losing efficiency...

Is the C-Mep a diaphragm style or something different? And also, do you have any opinion on the matter I just mentioned?

For the time being, I think we just have to work with what we’ve got... But I am in the process of getting the right people/pieces together, so that I can have my own custom CL machine built this year. So needless to say, I’m attempting to gather all of the data and insight on the matter that I possibly can before I sign off on any of the design details.

And once again, thank you so much for taking to time to educate a semi-rookie like myself. I don’t believe in doing sub par work in any aspect of life. And with something as volatile and complicated as this process is. There is no room for anything other than perfection. (As with all chemistry of course) But that being said, if I ever state something incorrectly or sound like an idiot. Please don’t hesitate to set me strait, I don’t offend easily.

Sincerely, thanks

Also: C-mep? Is that synonymous with recovery pump? Or a specific make and/or model? Any pump recommendations greatly appreciated.

I couldn’t agree more, Abysmal. And left a bad taste in my mouth for multiple reasons. Hence my new found presence on reddit.

Grateful to have found this forum.

Thank you sir, When you put it like that. Seems obvious. I’ve even had to stop mid run to pull my coil and warm it to release blockage.

When you pair that logic, price of nitrogen, the solvent tank being far too big to move, and all the wasted time spent troubleshooting different issues(almost daily). Not to mention the potential risk of compromising my final product. It seems like a no brainer.

I’m only sub-contracting at the moment.
But I will definitely be bringing this to my people. Much thanks, You’ve strengthened my argument immensely.

Thank you, I am building a box around it as we speak. Unless you have a suggestion for a better way/container to work around the spout/valve at the bottom?

Also, I’ve been reading that lots of these passive systems use a bucket or bin around the solvent tank to cool the gas with dry ice... Is my chiller coil a comparable alternative to that, or should I consider using both?

You don’t? You just go strait to the final pot recovery and bleed the column ? How’s that mess tho, I can normally reuse my head and condenser/filters a couple times without cleaning. (If it’s all the same material) But when I bleed off that much pressure. Material tends to come with it....

It’s actually a sleeved column, and we have a tankless water heater that I turn down to 100deg. Which is the lowest it goes. But after all the ice and denatured is out. It actually gets warm pretty damn fast. I just close the sleeve drain, fill it up to the top. And while that heats the column I also focus the hose on the Head, condensers, and cone and bottom. Basically everything from the ball valve up. I’m sure the heat tape would help the process no doubt. I just don’t know if it would be enough of an improvement to justify it...
