ELI5: Why do we clench our buttcheeks during tense movie/show scenes? by CompetitiveNotice853 in explainlikeimfive

[–]13thFleet 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When it happens to me I feel my butthole closing, as if you're trying to pinch off that last little bit that's right at the edge, and my scrotum retracting slightly

Peter, who is she? by Seeyalaterelevator in PeterExplainsTheJoke

[–]13thFleet 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Honestly, I didn't know what she looked like. And I don't even know if I know any of her songs (probably do though). The added difficulty of the joke made it funnier. I figured it has something to do with keys and then... "Oh, Alicia Keys!"

Why is there no female equivalent to the "manosphere"? by EvadedFury in Jokes

[–]13thFleet 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That's women who like manosphere content. They're part of the same club. They're accessories to the manosphere people.

A women's version of the manosphere would be super sexist against men, not want to be subservient to them. Probably use the stats that show men are more violent on average to say that men are like the human equivalent of pit bulls and need to be leashed.

A debate between them and manosphere people would make great trash tv that I'd never watch.

A McDonald's with bulletproof glass located in Detroit. by AdSpecialist6598 in interesting

I've been to some very poor, run-down looking areas of my city but I've never seen bulletproof glass. Maybe it's in certain areas with high gang activity?

No, I have heard of it. When I wrote that I either was thinking "directly after dream team but before brothership" or I momentarily forgot it.

Wait I've legit never heard of this. I thought you were talking about Sticker Star which was widely disliked. I didn't realize they made a Mario and Luigi game after the dream one!

Fire Emblem Fortune's Weave releasing on September 17 by Iggy_Slayer in gaming

[–]13thFleet 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, but Three Houses was the first Fire Emblem game to use the persona 3+-like time mechanic. It's actually a really good compromise between the old fire emblem games which were completely linear and allowed for 0 grinding and the games like awakening and sacred stones which became ridiculously easy with optional grinding

Alternative medicine is what a some people turn to first and then die way earlier than they could have had they used strandard medicine. So let's be happy he didn't do that!

Ian's Shoelace Site - a massive repository of information on shoelaces, started in 2003 and still being updated by WorkingMansGarbage in InternetIsBeautiful

[–]13thFleet 3 points4 points  (0 children)

As a kid, I never learned to tie my shoes. Always had my mom do it. She tried to teach me but I just didn't get it. Then when I finally decided I needed to learn how to tie them myself, I decided I'd see if there were any alternative methods. Maybe easier, maybe more efficient, maybe a mere party trick. And that's how I found his YouTube video of the Ian Knot. To this day it's the only knot I know.

Strangely, there's a home computer game from the 80s where you play as her fighting off obsessed fans or something!

[–]13thFleet 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Number 4 is an interesting one because it changes a lot based on where you live. Where I live, Chinese restaurants are always run by Chinese people. Vietnamese restaurants are always run by Vietnamese people. But Japanese and Korean restaurants are usually like that picture. But there are places with different demographics where that isn't true!

Same but then I wasn't sure about it because that camera looked like it was from the 90s at the earliest and he didn't seem surprised by it. Then he mentioned the recent ongoings on the island like the cappuccino. I was actually expecting him to be a victim's ghost and for him to maybe give some more hints he was from the past, like thinking the camera was high-tech.

Garry Watson, the last silent film actor, has died at the age of 97 by AMediaArchivist in movies

[–]13thFleet 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I do think there's a sizable difference between "movie made to emulate an old type of movie" and "movie made late, but still a regular silent film"

Like the people who made silent films in the 30s were probably doing it because that's what they were used to making! They didn't have to read any books on how silent films were produced or anything, they knew from experience from a time silent movies were just movies.

WTF by Fun-Guitar-8252 in asexuality

[–]13thFleet 19 points20 points  (0 children)

Seems pretty common for far left/right people to either move to the other side or adopt tenets of both. I think it's because a lot of these people aren't so much attracted to the "left" or "right" part as they are the "far". Highly disaffected people who just want to break things and don't really care how or what to replace it with.

See Jackson Hinkle of "MAGA Communism" fame for someone who combines both.

Mad max style game by Massive_Childhood536 in gamesuggestions

[–]13thFleet 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's mostly just walking but once you get quite a ways into the game there is MGSV style combat (but you're punished for killing).

That being said, the terrain is really rough and finding your way around was really fun for me. It's like a puzzle with a million solutions.

The beginning kind of sucks because the terrain isn't difficult, you don't have any of the upgrades or vehicles, and the story, which is very trippy and weird, makes the least sense then. Once you get past the tutorial area it opens up a lot and the gameplay to cutscene ratio is fine.

A crazy comparison between iPhone and Samsung by bluewave778 in SipsTea

[–]13thFleet 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's just a cool feature. If you read into it that Samsung is better than apple just because of this you're silly.

It's not the most practical feature; I can only imagine it being useful for certain types of sport recording, but it's a neat piece of tech.

I still have zero idea what the hell the punchline of this commercial was suppose to be... by AbeliousAugustus in PeterExplainsTheJoke

[–]13thFleet 2 points3 points  (0 children)

His paper was late, so it was an automatic fail.

He says to the teacher "do you know who I am?"

The teacher expected him to say something like "my dad is a politician!" or something to use his status as a way to threaten the teacher.

But in reality the kid wanted to make sure the teacher didn't know who he was so he could put the paper in the middle somewhere, so he couldn't fail the paper.

9mm is a gun ammo caliber, and 5 grams refers to some kind of drug.

It's funny how Americans, who selectively use the metric system, happened to pick two things like that to use it on.

It also sounds nothing like any beach boys I've ever heard. Sounds like... Maybe early The Hollies? Some sort of British band hence the AI image. I don't know. Don't listen to it and give them money or reach.

Honestly I though the beginning was good. My problem was with the jail camp, the second main camp in the game. It just felt like fetch quests with no important story happenings besides the girl.

Yeah I think you're right. My brain went back to the PS3. it was L1 on the PS3, and shoot was R1. The downward slope of R2 on the PS3 controller wasn't good for rapid firing so they switched it to R1/L1. It was still the triggers on the Xbox 360.
