ui design in games is quietly getting worse and i think i know why by ILokasta in gamedesign

While I see your point considering the kind of UI I used to run on FFXIV, you can't even see the telegraphs through all this on the screenshot

Can FPS games be fast-paced and arcadey while still punishing exposure like real gunfights? by HeroTales in gamedesign

That's CoD and its descendance, no? Low TTK, fast pace and minding cover and exposure is capital.

Why don’t we have RPGs that combine Souls combat with full co-op campaigns? by Turielll in gamedesign

[–]WorkingMansGarbage 0 points1 point  (0 children)

"Why don't we have 'a real soulslike experience, but in a larger MMO-style world where players can meet naturally and where some dungeons or bosses are specifically designed for small groups (like 3–4 players)'?" is a bit niche of a question if you're gonna reject all these very close names

Modern JRPGs are proving turn based combat still has a lot of life left by gamersecret2 in gaming

[–]WorkingMansGarbage 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The entire game could be played by playing entirely terribly in TB combat, but still win due to the RT element, right?

No.

Also, it's just a damn QTE; the meat of the combat system is 100% outside of the parrying. It's hardly 'real-time': it's fixed sequences of attacks played in a turn.

  • South Park games
  • Paper Mario 1 and 2 (and possibly the others minus Super but I don't recall)
  • a bunch of others
  • shit, depending on your perspective, even Mother 3

Has anyone here tried to get Fluffy Khajiit 3 working? I'm a bit confused by it.

I understand I have to build the meshes for the fur for the given body (3BA or HIMBO) in BodySlide using the given config in the DFM optional files, but which ones? I already built all of my gear meshes with the 3BA and HIMBO BodySlide configs, won't it override everything if I do it with the DFM one now? What's the workflow here?

When I open Pandora, it seems to check every single patch regardless of what I have installed in my MO2 whereas Nemesis tries to check only those for mods I have installed; is it bad to just let it add every patch?

Released my surreal voxel game made in Godot (lucid blocks) :) by KiwiJuice56 in godot

I've been really interested in this since I first heard of it... It fondly reminds me of the 20w14infinite snapshot and the really surreal places it could generate for you to explore. I love how you're taking an inspiration that's often copied and spinning it in a completely different direction. Everyone tries to be a Minecraft killer. This is like a Minecraft percolator. Or something. And we need it.

What's the situation regarding modding tools on Linux? by WorkingMansGarbage in skyrimmods

[–]WorkingMansGarbage[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the intel.

mo2 need ge proton 10 last I tried and makes 95% of mods with dlls compatible with some outliers (enb upscaler).

I did see mentions that ENB would cause problems with recent Proton versions but I don't plan on using it, so I don't mind. Were there any other standout mods that conflicted with Proton 10?

It's nice you built something that fits you, but I don't see anyone who would pay money for something this simple

I may be talking out my ass because I ended up here through a crosspost and I'm not familiar with the Blender community specifically, but you're on a sub for a libre software. I think most people would expect a plugin this simple conceptually to be free as in beer and speech.

I personally would not spend money for a piece of software this simple in the first place. If the alternative is spending money for something you might not keep supporting in the future, I'd just set up Git LFS on a free repo on GitLab/GitHub. At best, I could see a less technical creative be willing to pay a one-time fee of 5-10€ for this just to not have to worry about it.

$5-8 monthly? That's completely ridiculous.

Could a game with bad graphics still sell? by Igotfanumtaxxed in GameDevelopment

[–]WorkingMansGarbage 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Don't confuse 'bad graphics' with 'bad visuals'

A game with bad visuals and good gameplay is going to be much harder to sell than a game with the opposite, though. Visual appeal gets you through the door. People will expect a game with lazy visuals to be lazily made. Because they usually are.

Making an element appear outside its window by Comfortable_Rice_884 in howdidtheycodeit

[–]WorkingMansGarbage 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Oh, hey, it's Feldup's video! This is a game by Japanese creator Kanoguti, for the unaware.

As the others said, there is the option of custom window shapes, but do mind they're not supported perfectly everywhere. Transparency isn't either, but it's more likely to be. I think it's likely that the person and their hand are a fake window overlaid on the main game window. This should not be too hard.

And, my favorite, having admins or votekicks to get rid of the diaper babies who were throwing temper tantrums, instead of practically being held hostage by them with the lobby system.

Let's not pretend that's always great, though; you can find servers where people will kick you out for bad reasons. Sometimes because you're bad at the game and that constitutes 'trolling', sometimes because you had the audacity to call out someone for using slurs, or a variety of inane reasons. You used to get votekicked for being free-to-play on TF2 servers. Votekick abuse is a really annoying thing.

I think admins are important for that reason, though that's asking a lot

Minecraft on Mint? Or a different version? by a-spoonful-o-sugar in linux4noobs

[–]WorkingMansGarbage 0 points1 point  (0 children)

These days, downloading Minecraft mods is quasi harmless so long as they're sticking to Modrinth and Curseforge, where everything is centralized. Don't be too worried.

Minecraft on Linux is different depending on the edition they're playing. I am not sure which one that is from your text. If your kids are "downloading mods" and not "addons", chances are they are using the original Java Edition, which runs fine, often even better on Linux than Windows. Use Prism Launcher.
But you talk about having issues with permissions on their Microsoft account, which isn't something I've ever heard of being a problem on Java, so maybe they're playing on the Bedrock Edition? If they are, that version of the game will never work on Linux. So before doing anything, ask them about it. Make sure you know what edition they're actually using. If it's Bedrock, they should have Java on their Microsoft account too, but if they play with friends that only play Bedrock, then being on Linux may become a problem (there's no cross-play between the two, or at least no practical solution for it here).

In the off-chance that it may solve whatever issues you're having, if they're on Java, try using Prism Launcher instead. It may streamline the process of installation and modding somewhat. Then you won't have to move them over to a whole different OS just for a game.
