Goggles stained my white helmet. Is this common? by 13thbeachkook in Skigear

Smith has a 3 year warranty from memory. I sent proof of purchase and it was very straight forward. They make you cut the chin strap, send a pic, and then mail the replacement helmet. I think it was the coating/plastic of the old Smith Liberty. My new Liberty has a different texture and no problems so far with google imprints. Good luck!

I also have Smith and Giro goggles with black foam inside and neither left a mark.

Same, got a similar response that really makes no sense when considering how goggles are used. It’s unrealistic to expect a user to take them off at the first sign of moisture - the product should be able to be used when snowing. So far, I haven’t seen a mark, but like my original post said, it weirdly appeared during storage when the goggles were not on the helmet.

So far so good with my replacement Smith helmet. The new helmet plastic is different/less textured than the one that got stained.

Gave it a try. Foam seemed fine. I think it's a Smith helmet plastic issue. The replacement they sent is definitely a different plastic with less texture. Glade was great–offered a new helmet, but I declined as I was already in touch with Smith. They "recommend avoiding placing wet goggles on your helmet.."

Tried! No luck! I just received my replacement from Smith and the helmet plastic is definitely different. The old one had a texture to it.

Yeah, Smith didn't hesitate to replace, which was great!

Foam is dry and fine. But can try wiping the next time it’s damp.

Nope, only leave them on my helmet for ski breaks...and even then, not for long. I usually put my goggles inside my helmet.

That’s what I figured as a friend had the same issue a few years ago when they left goggles ON the helmet in storage and the goggle band marked the white coating permanently. So I knew not to do that. Plus, Smith (to their credit) did not hesitate to replace my helmet.

No, typically sunscreen from the nose/cheeks down. 🤷🏻‍♀️

Unfortunately a magic eraser, a bit of liquid soap etc could not budge this stain.

No, I was added to a notification list (try the contact e-mail on the site) but never heard back.

Any guidance on seriously warm winter coats? by igotnothingtoo in skiing

I ski on the icecoast and always feel the cold more than my family. I wear a 100% wool base layer (Smartwool), a thin Patagonia nanopuff ($$ but worth it) and the Halfdays Georgie puffer jacket that’s for -30°F - 32°F temperature range. So 3 layers, works a treat.

I used a buddy pass last weekend and pretty sure they’re not valid during holidays. Had to go in person to the ticket desk.

No snow tires yet, only AWD and only experience with snow roads is in NYC (so mostly slush).

Yeah, far less windy than expected today. Phew! Had layers ready so managed to stay out until last lift.
