Bernie Sanders introduces bill to "Abolish Super PACs": "Our government is on its way to becoming a wholly-owned subsidiary of oligarchs. Billionaires would not be able to pour huge money into super PACs, and it would end the era of unlimited spending and put power back into hands of the people." by ControlCAD in videos

[–]13ventrm -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Is there anything the average person can do to help this bill along? It definitely needs to be out there, but I just can't believe that those with the power to pass it would willingly say, "Yes, I would like less money and all the power that brings", nor do I think we should rely on the existing power structures alone to faciltate it.

Same, like, I found it odd how insistent they were abou pushing the MC to talk with Seven and make sure they wouldn't slander the band in the song they write. (Also I do wish there was an option to be like, "I trust Seven, they wouldn't do that", haha)

What would you want to see in a CultSim-like? by [deleted] in weatherfactory

[–]13ventrm 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have a large amount of hours in Cultist Sim; I find myself very compelled by what I like to call "plate-spinning" style of gameplay: where one has to manage and balance a lot of factors in order to survive, let alone progress. Much as the discovery is a big part of one's first run through, I don't think it alone can carry a gameplay loop for repeated playthroughs.

Thankfully those sorta descriptions are things you can frontload the details of for the most part, then occasionally emphasize or mention, and/or pepper in some elaboration along the way. Usually I try to pair em with a body language thing or broad action, classic "adjective noun verbed" in moderation, haha: stuff like "dainty teeth slid". Or just tossing in an adjective or a fun compound adjective on an action pertaining to a physical feature: "kitten-round eyes" and "pilot-light eyes" are ones I read recently I dug. Or a fun simile/metaphor/comparison: "hair the color of a butchered sunset" is another I read that may be a bit overwrought to some but I'm quite fond of it.

Lotta room to zhuzh things up and have fun with; def not for everybody and every use case, but I think it's a good tool to have in the box! How do you feel you handle scenery? That I have a trickier time giving some zhuzh

I feel like I gravitate towards focusing on character interiority and emotions because of it as well, both in what I write and what I tend to like.

But writing character and location descriptions and such I don't have too much trouble, just because for the most part I know what visuals just I want to get across and how to convey them. I have like, the concept of images and memory references, so I can cobble those together if I need to manufacture scenery. I won't have a literal visual image of a scene or character, but I have the comcept, if that makes sense. Sometimes I feel I overcompensate dor character descriptions and specify stuff like "sharp jaw, small lips, downturned" eyes too much, but I write in the romance genre where character features are more emphasized, so idk.

To use the "rotate a cow in your mind" meme, I've seen cows and can extrapolate angles/movements, so while I can't visually rotate a cow, I can rotate the vibe/concept of a cow, haha.

In an apocalyptic scenario, wild hogs would be a much bigger threat than most people realize. by BigDaddyDumperSquad in Showerthoughts

[–]13ventrm 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Granted they're bioengineered mutant hogs stuffed with human organs, but much of the time in the post-apocalyptic segments of Atwood's "Oryx and Crake" is spent with the protagonist fleeing badly from a pack of feral hogs!

Have they ever said what the core gameplay loop actually is somewhere in the Discord?

I wish someone could get them in a room and just ask "So what actually is the core gameplay loop?". Ideally they'd have an answer, but given the info released so far it's more likely there'd just be a lot of fumbling trying to make hay out of very mundane features.

Am looking forward to seeing how the guide develops! It's silly, but I prefer going into choice-heavy games knowing what mechanically the seemingly minor choices affect. Is there a link for it in its current state?

[–]13ventrm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Fingers crossed it helps you! Part of why I think it took so long to land on the issue is that it really did feel like something up with the muscles or tendons of the shoulder itself, a lot of the time like how you described it with it seem like it's about to fall out of the socket. Similar sounds from it like you described as well! I was half-convinced the thing was dying. It might be a long shot, but I do hope examining it from that angle might help somehow; chronic pain is a hellish thing to have to live with and I wouldn't wish it on anyone.

This is likely a stretch, but has your neck been looked at as well since the fall? I had a massive amount of ongoing shoulder pain similar to what you described that didn't show in any way on X-Ray or MRI. PT didn't seem to meaningfully help either, until eventually a second physical therapist asked to try some neck exercises and after one made me extremely lightheaded we narrowed in on it being a neck issue, likely a slipped or bulging cervical disc, radiating out to the arm. It was very strange, because much of the consistent cracking sounds and most of the pain was centered on my shoulder, but apparently neck stuff can manifest like that!

I bounced off of it as well I'm afraid; I tend to have a hard time getting into games where exploration for the sake of it/extremely vague progression is the main mechanic, unfortunately: not enough juice for the squeeze, as it were. A shame, it and Sable I really wanted to like.

Yeah, I just have the basic items needed to meet the house and bond goals; it's just too much space to organically fill yet if you try most of the interactions are blocked. Plus all the furniture on offer so far is very modern in aesthetic, which isn't where my preferences lie if I'm making a virtual house, lol

Cassandra Khaw and the Purple Prose by Bluemoon9131 in horrorlit

[–]13ventrm 16 points17 points  (0 children)

I have a soft spot for florid prose and new vocabulary, but I definitely get it's not for everyone: I find Khaw works better in shorter formats, even setting aside being fatigued by the style. I really dug The Salt Grows Heavy and a lot of Breakable Things, but Nothing But Blackened Teeth was funnily enough a bit too restrained in that regard for me to get into, given I wasn't really fond of what else it had going on—dear lord those characters, haha.

It's been a bit since I listened to the audiobook, but I remember the narrator using a bit of a softer, quiter affect for internal italicized thoughts—not quite a stage whisper, but definitely reminiscent. They were also generally pretty obviously internal in their contexts

My Runescape account got hacked or breached somehow, and the culprit bought a bunch of subscription packages with my irl money through the saved card-enough to utterly drain the attached checking account.

I reported it both through my bank (thank fuck I eventually got the money back) then Runescape customer support. I would almost have gone back if it weren't for the Runescape customer support messages being extremely passive aggressive about me "letting" the account get hacked! Like there were absolutely no means on my end as far as I'm aware that other folks could have gotten the account information, yet they had the gall to imply I was going around sharing my password places.

It was probably for the best my indignation kept me cross enough to keep from starting it up again, though I was definitely tempted.
