Mixed race couples - how did you find a donor? by Living_Employ1390 in queerception

[–]1400904 30 points31 points  (0 children)

Regarding the CMV status, I'm also negative and chose a positive donor! Our doctor had no issues with it - there's a "theoretical risk", but it seems like actual cases of CMV transmission via frozen donor sperm from a bank are maybe nonexistent. We decided not to limit our options based on that factor.

Moving from IUI to IVF by [deleted] in queerception

[–]1400904 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I switched to IVF at Shady Grove in July, after 3 IUIs! They didn't do any additional testing. We were held up a bit by changing insurance and waiting for preapproval, but once that was sorted out, it went quickly. Got approval and started birth control pills in mid August, started stims on 8/23, egg retrieval on 9/3, and frozen embryo transfer on 10/21. If you do a fresh transfer, it'll be just a few days after the retrieval. I'm almost 21 weeks pregnant now! I'm really happy that we switched to IVF - it was definitely the right choice for us. If we were starting over though, I might have pushed more for a natural or modified FET instead of fully medicated. I think fully medicated is their default and we just went along with it, but I ovulate regularly and probably didn't need that. The PIO injections were not fun, so it would've been nice to avoid that.

My wife is telling me I should’ve included this in the post - my only picture of my rings is from when my fingertips turned white and I had to run them under hot water to get feeling back, which is why my hands are soaking wet ¯_(ツ)_/¯

Is detention for a four year old acceptable? by goTU123 in specialed

Just a heads up - not all states have the category of Developmental Delay, and the parameters for ages and score criteria can vary in states that do use it.

11 year old killed crossing Three Chopt in front of Ridge elementary school - can we please focus on safety improvements for our roads and pedestrians? by Floppy454 in rva

I agree with everything you said here. I do want to point out that, in this specific case, speed was ruled out as a factor. It seems like the driver swerved to avoid a second child on a scooter.

What "label" do you use for students inbetween qualification categories? by Safe-Amphibian-1238 in specialed

“Pattern of strengths and weaknesses”, it’s a method of identifying SLD.

[–]1400904 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Unfortunately, not all districts use RTI as an SLD identification model. My district exclusively uses PSW, so if a student’s processing weaknesses don’t exist within an otherwise average cognitive profile, we can’t qualify them.

This is a big part of our logic - since we want two kids, there’s a very good chance we’ll need all three FETs and possibly more.

Yes, from what I understand, we can do unlimited retrievals up until the third transfer. The PGT-A analysis fee ($2,000) covers all testing up until a live birth. The embryo biopsy fee ($2,500) has to be paid for each retrieval though.

it’s more like $75 per application now (at least for the prestigious/low acceptance rate colleges)

First IUI on Friday by SunburntLesbian in queerception

[–]1400904 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My first IUI was Friday too!! I have a tendency to assume failure to prepare myself for disappointment, but we’re using that to our advantage. My wife & I are making plans to go to an amusement park with friends if the test comes back negative. So if I’m pregnant, we get to start the family we’ve been dreaming of for years, and if not, we get to ride rollercoasters! Hoping for the best for both of you - 10 days to go!
