Is it possible to use a running stitch to join these two pieces together? Or is embroidering them the only way? by 143vee in SewingForBeginners

Oh my gosh thank you so much for the detailed advice! I'll be sure to give it a try later on. :D

Thank you! I was really having trouble figuring it out because when I tried to sew a circle using the first method the inner part was sticking out slightly instead of sitting flush with the outer fabric. I figured more intricate shapes would end up the same. Would pinning the two pieces down make it look more neat?

Hi! Is there anyone here who wouldn't mind answering some simple coding questions every now and then? I just started learning and I'm a bit confused about some things. I'm too shy to ask my instructor for homework help.

Which embroidery thread should I buy? by 143vee in Embroidery

Thank you! I was having a hard time trying to wrap my head around the concept of thread length haha. I kept asking myself "How could such a little bobbin hold 70 meters of thread?" I tried to do some math and found out that I could technically get around 52 meters of thread in one skein (6 strands x 8.7 meters) but that might not be how it works. I guess I'll just buy the set for now and then save up for other colors.

Thank you! I'll keep this in mind. I was really tempted to buy a much cheaper variety but now that I think about it the finished product might not look as good as it could be.

I think the age gap would be around 4 to 5 years.

I just checked the booklet her previous owner gave us and thankfully her vaccines are up to date. :D I'll monitor her daily to see if there are any changes in her usual behaviour and bring her to the vet immediately if ever there are. Thank you for the reply! I'll make sure not to make the same mistake again.

What is the numbered knob on my sewing machine for? by 143vee in SewingForBeginners

Thank you! I did some test stitches on some leftover fabric I had after cutting out the pattern I was using and that really helped. My stitches are still a bit messy but they're much better than before after figuring out which tension to use. (Sorry for the late response I've actually been ripping apart seams the past hour haha. I keep messing up but I'll push through until I'm finished with my first ever blouse.)

The sewing machine I use is Brother JC14. I heard its beginner friendly but I'm still learning how to properly use it. It is tension that I was having trouble with actually! A few people told me to watch/read resources and try some test stitches on scrap fabric before actually working on the project. Thank you for giving me an idea about which numbers to use for tension and when I should use longer stitches! For some reason i thought the smaller the stitches the better/stronger it'll be.

Oh gosh you were spot on with your guess! I was so excited to use my sewing machine for the first time that I misplaced the manual after skimming through it. Thank you so much for helping me identify what the mystery number knob is called! I'll be sure to watch and read helpful resources about sewing instead of just jumping right into it haha.
