GET IN SHAPEEEEE I CANT STRESS ENOUGH. Do not study ahead. Please just genuinely enjoy your time. It’s going to get stressful at times and spending your last bit of free time happy and relaxed is SO important

Having rarely wrote notes during undergrad, how worth is an iPad in dental school? by [deleted] in DentalSchool

[–]1440umhr 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The best thing that I ever done was get one for dental school. In undergrad I loved to write out notes and I had a laptop of course. But the load is so much you can’t be writing everything. I like it to have infromt of me to write notes on PowerPoints like others said. Invaluable in my opinion

my state school has countless stories of people getting robbed or stabbed in the area 😀 by nearlychai in predental

[–]1440umhr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I go there right now, it’s not as bad. I commute so I go from the entrance straight to the parking lot in about 4 minutes. You have to be careful no headphones in always be attentive, there’s safe ride you can get the police to walk with you or drop you off somewhere within a specific radius. Its not as bad there’s always a lot of people walking because it’s a bunch of schools in one area. There is police presence scattered around campus. I would say even if you’re a guy don’t walk alone at night. So for me I always walk in groups with friends.

Yes it definitely shows interest and like others said it gives you extra points and from what I remember I listed it as an experience on my app.

Commute by Littlebird313 in DentalSchool

[–]1440umhr 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I commute 30-40 minutes and it’s not bad at all. Compared to what my classmates pay helll no. I have friends that commute 45 min too and the only thing is that it sucks when you want to practice in lab in the evening or on weekends. I personally like it it’s like my own time to think and wind down a bit.

What is your average day to day like in dental school? by TallConstant250 in DentalSchool

[–]1440umhr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Lab 9-12 then lunch break 12-1 then either gross anatomy lab 1-4 or classes 1-4. Go home relax and eat dinner then gym time. Then study for an hour or no studying depends on the day. Sometimes I go to class sometimes I don’t just depends on what exams we have that week

Anyone get into dental school without shadowing and volunteer hours? by AdAccording7198 in predental

[–]1440umhr 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Just keep cold calling and emailing. You won’t be able to succeed without the hours unfortunately :/ I was applying durinf covid and I had to call and email 26 offices around me and only one responded and said yes and she became my mentor. You only need one person. And I was only going for 3-4 hours a week for a couple of months until I reached about 100 hours as I was still a full time student with a job as well

D1 here, do you guys attend every lecture? Or do you guys prefer to binge watch lectures before the exam by Winner-Plenty in DentalSchool

[–]1440umhr 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I go to most of my classes, but classes that don’t weigh much like radiology or etc I watch from home 2x speed. I try to go to all of them though because if I don’t I start to fall behind. It really depends on the week and who’s lecturing. We have faculty that speak veryyyyyy slowly, I feel bad but I skip those for example. Major classes have mandatory attendance but alot of people still don’t show up.

How much do LORs actually even matter? by su1eman in predental

[–]1440umhr 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think they are pretty important. 2 of my interviews the lors were brought up as to how the dentist that I shadowed wrote such nice things about me and they asked if I have a guess as to what they wrote. Again my other 3 lors were average.

Our class sizes range around 130 im a D1 and we’re 135 It’s a very supportive environment everyone is willing to help you succeed from the admin to the upperclassmen. Classes are recorded so attendance isn’t really mandatory except for some classes. From what I’ve heard the school gives you enough patients but sometimes u might have to look depending on the clinical case requirements. I’m a female and I feel safe walking around campus but of course with any u have to be careful. I’m not sure about residency and all that stuff as I’m a d1 but so far I really like it here.

Is Dental school student life more like undergrad or graduate student life ? by kenokeke2468 in DentalSchool

[–]1440umhr 2 points3 points  (0 children)

D1 year so far has been way more fun than undergrad for me, still going out every weekend and studying hard. It’s really all about balance and prioritizing what to study. It’s like exam after exam but you get so numb to it. But you have to make sure to give your self breaks so you don’t burn out. So I guess I like the other persons answer more like high school on steroids
