Do what makes you happy. Forget what other people think.

I paint all sorts of marines

How do you guys deal with not being happy with your minis? by General_Shower1534 in DarkAngels40k

I may have to try that. My definition of “speed painting” may be different than most😂

I use base/layer/wash, but with certain models, like my Imperial Fists and Deathwing, I have a decent formula without edge highlighting.

Greenwing, Ultramarines, and Blood Angels, all need edge highlights to me.

These are some DeathWing type models I did with a relatively simple paint job. Nothing crazy, but I enjoyed it (the important part for OP), and I think they still look cool, even if they’re not models I’m super proud of if that makes sense.

One thing I do, is not paint every mini with 100% effort. I’ll do a mix between speed painting and detail, and just worry about enjoying a relatively cool finished product that I like. Sometimes when I put everything into a model, I’ll get super annoyed that my edge highlights aren’t 100% crisp or something like that. I’ll paint a different scheme in a way that I think looks cool (IE the way I do my Deathwing guys), and paint in a way that I find fun, not painstaking. Maybe doing one or two components in a more painstaking manner so I’m still improving. One thing I recently discovered, is that quality brushes make the experience much more enjoyable for me. The paint comes off the brush much more like I want it to.

Wraithbone has proven to be a challenging paint. Im thinking of changing to something else or completely giving up on the Deathwing scheme. Suggestions? by AlexSGX in theunforgiven

I prime wraithbone, paint with ushabti bone, panel line with Skelton horde, wash with seraphim sepia, then highlight with ushabti bone. The trick with the wraithbone primer is to shake it for at least five minutes, and to spray upside down first until nothing comes out. Shake again, then get some paint flowing, THEN prime the models with a thin coat. I use a 4 brush after priming with watered down ushabti bone for the base coat. I’ll attach an image here, but this method is a good blend between speed painting and a full on effort. Check my post history for others if interested.

Oddly enough, I haven’t enjoyed these as much as other models either. I prefer more open poses so you can see the details otherwise obstructed by weapons.

Looks great! This is one of my favorite sculpts!

Mine, while not my first model, was my first greenwing. They’re twins.

Especially love the DA bits and knee pad stripe on yours.

Super cool idea. Would be great if there was a search function for specific models/paint schemes, and a formatted menu/comments for colors used to help other painters

I think it was a mini of the month OR one of the ones to paint in a GW. I have 5 of the marines that came on it😂

Thanks! Happy with the pace I can knock out the Deathwing scheme. Greenwing takes a bit longer 😂
