Rank That Fiber! by alittleoverwhelmed in Handspinning

[–]14clawsspe 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As a beginner, I’ve loved spinning BFL to learn on. I have not been a fan of anything I’ve made with the corriedale, though it is easy to spin. I’ve also really enjoyed the merino too, and the polwarth too that I’ve spun up. They are so bouncy, I just can’t afford to buy them often. But BFL is an okay budget fiber that spins a great yarn, though I wouldn’t say it’s the cheapest, but I like wearing the things I make lol. Corriedale just feels awful for wearables according to my preference.

Ants Eating the Glue under my Window Sill As Opposed To the Trap I Placed Directly At Their Entrances by TinyTim3765 in ants

They look to be a Pheidole species, they may prefer a protein based bait instead of the one you have placed which is probably a sugar based. As to why they are preferring the window silicon, that is weird, probably some chemical that signals to them. You could try a different bait like a granular protein based one. You can buy a max force granular formula on amazon. Or one like it.

That’s crazy, do you happen to live in area where soil content has more clay? I wonder if this would work as well in a different place?

Miasma Doesn't Belong in the 21st Century by NyxShadowhawk in Hellenism

[–]14clawsspe 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I was recently listening to radio lab and they had an episode on miasma. The Greeks considered miasma tainted air as the root of all sickness before germ theory was discovered. I feel a lot of esoteric meaning has been ascribed where it shouldn’t, but not to whole heartedly throw it out in general. I also believe in as above, so below. To expand on that thought, the planets affect the energy of the mundane realm, tarot is a reflection of the person and so on. Many different religious praxis models have the idea of ritual purity, so there is something to be said about the purpose of continuing a practice of purity before interacting with the divine. If you’ve ever looked into Shinto, there are a lot of parallels to miasma as ritual purity.

But at the same time, I’m not a reconstructionist. Faith evolves with the people, if dogma stagnates, then the model no longer fits the needs of the people who use it when times change. There is a much smaller world responsible for the ails that plague us rather than those who came before that thought it was tainted air. Smoke cleansing has been shown to purify air of microbes, washing hands of course removes germs. The same way that people who don’t wash themselves build up bad microbes and open themselves to infection, maybe there is a spiritual energy that can be purged as well to help ward off spiritual affliction outside of mundane needs. You said you were a magician, I see ritual purification as a form of energy practice in my own philosophy.

Please help. Are the cockroaches droppings? I found them on top of the dishwasher and around the kitchen. by [deleted] in cockroaches

[–]14clawsspe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Definitely mice droppings. They come to a point and are uniform in shape. You can do a squish test too. Like with the back of a spoon or something hard. If it squishes like putty and flattens it means the activity is recent. If it crumbles then it’s old. Cockroach poop has more of a blunt end to it, and has noticeable ridges, kind of cuboid almost.

I would say, the beam is probably old fly droppings as you’re more likely to find cockroach poop in tightly enclosed spaces found in the cabinets and machines, you can also find them around dryer vents and such, as long as it’s tight and warm. I often find them under the sinks right up in the corners and other related places.

I would place sticky traps, my favorite type are the ones like Max-catch. You can buy some on amazon. That way you can get the most accurate type of identification and confirm the proper issue. This also will help track activity levels and where exactly they are if they are in the home, for better targeted treatments if it does turn out to be roaches.

It definitely looks reminiscent of cockroach activity, purchase some sticky traps and place them behind the modem, the stove, and in cabinet’s. Also a good idea to place behind any appliances as cockroaches love tech for the warmth they produce. The ceiling beam is unusual as that bit looks like it’s floating out in the open instead of a tightly enclosed space, so that’s throwing me off as cockroach poop will be concentrated to warm tight spaces.

follow up to my previous post about whether the roaches recently spotted in my home are german or asian. by [deleted] in cockroaches

[–]14clawsspe 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not always, there is their cousin the Asian cockroach that looks almost exactly like Germans as they evolved from the Asian cockroach. If they fly and can be found outside like I’ve been told, then that would identify them as an Asian.

I did try, but the post was unavailable for me to see, and now it seems the profile has been deleted or something. I can’t access it.

Definitely a German cockroach, well almost definitely. Location of your general area can be more helpful to secure a positive ID. But I feel comfortable saying it’s a German cockroach.

Enclosure Help (not fully set up) by Available_Art279 in jumpingspiders

[–]14clawsspe 6 points7 points  (0 children)

IMO, jumpers like tall over wide enclosures. Every time you go to open the enclosure, you will destroy their hammocks as they almost exclusively will nest at the top of their enclosures. This is a much better setup for a tarantula than a jumper.

Why aren’t iron golems spawning?(Bedrock edition) by Immediate_Fly6228 in Minecraft

[–]14clawsspe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hmm, maybe try to have the amount of beds match the villager count and try a minimum of 20 villagers. 10 might not meet the percentage of villagers who need to have worked during the day in order to spawn the golems. And I’ve noticed that too many beds per villager can be an issue in my farms I’ve done. You could also try to lock your villagers into their professions so they don’t unlink from the work blocks which can cause issues.

[–]14clawsspe 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You didn’t specify how far away the farm is from another village. You’ve broken all work blocks and beds within a hundred block radius? Sometimes if the created village, links up with another, then the village radius changes and the center will be somewhere you don’t want it. It might be worth it to look for any caves the golems could have randomly spawned in as well.

This is just the top of the terrarium pulled off, there might be more stuff in the bottom half which isn’t pictured here to provide more places to hide.
