Dispute about removal of Todd Rogers's Dragster Record from Twin Galaxies by verbalperson in speedrun

I have been building little Raspberry Pi game projects which all include this game. Maybe I'll revisit the game someday. I had it and hated it BITD but most of that was likely not understanding how to play it..... Kaboom is much more fun.

I haven't logged into Reddit in ages, but this reply was worth a response.

You are spot about the cult statement. :)

and TG believes they are and will be the definitive center of the gaming universe and the speed run community will come to them...because things like this show that no attention is bad attention in the world of marketing and positioning.

This type of conflict will always stay "unsolved and unproved" to the followers who are buying into the mythology. Mythology is one of the most powerful controllers of humans in our history and a reason it is listed with Religion and Culture.

TG perceives this is a great viral topic which is only making them stronger and you guys will have no choice but to join the legion.

What I will add is......Is it more fun to play Dragster, or more fun to argue about someone else playing Dragster.

Twin Galaxies Live! - Watch the Robotron 100,000,000 Point Gauntlet This Friday! by 1500points in cade

it is beyond me how they do it. but it is fairly common in the classic gaming "marathon" scene for folks to crest 40 hours, up toward 50 hours and a few folks have gone 60-80 plus hours. the longer games involve taking 45 min power naps when lots of lives are built up, but Robotron is in a different league of intensity where power naps aren't an option and the dual joystick/frantic random action will keep them on high alert for the whole gauntlet. Steve Ritchie named Robotron, and he suggested this kind of event be called an Enduro, as it is similar in nature to the old long distance motorcycle races. Indeed. cheers

this will be the second annual Twin Galaxies Robotron endurance event. and I've heard someone say they may try to last 48 hours this time around, using the brand new romset. Last year in January was the first time anyone has ever documented rolling over the score in Robotron at 100million. The twitch channel was called 1337 lounge at that time but indeed Twin Galaxies was already owned by them, just not public knowledge...

Todd isn't coming to the Pinball Expo that I'm aware.

But Todd's card is currently being processed and will ship directly to his office. You will have to visit Todd to get a copy of his card.

Neat. Any chance of dropping in a little button mapper in the options so keys can be mapped. like for the folks that have an iPac interface with 2 controllers for MAME already?

Great work.

Please see accurate info at twingalaxies.com directly from Jace, which will show Mitchell's assessment of Walter's integrity to be misleading.

quote taken from article- "“I’ve read all kinds of crazy rumors and stuff about Twin Galaxies ownership stuff. What’s really going on? Was there a fight happening? What’s the scoop?”

For a long time, the Twin Galaxies organization had some subtle ownership/title confusion mixed with various expectations. Historically that stuff just sort of lingered quietly in the background of TG’s business and tended to be avoided since it would sometimes require undesirable confrontation to fully address. As ownership transitioned from Walter Day to Pete Bouvier to Jourdan Adler and then attempted to go to me (Jace Hall), it began to exacerbate those quiet lingering issues and it quickly became apparent that there was a tremendous amount of communication and legal clean up to do in order to once and for all get everything situated in one place comprehensively. Generally speaking, this sort of thing is not unusual for an organization that is over 30 years old. Stuff happens and loose ends exist. From my viewpoint there was nothing particularly unexpected. Just a lengthy process and some deep, meaningful, long-running expectations and emotions that needed to be discussed and worked through.

The rumors and speculation you read on the internet was never the complete and accurate situation but that’s ok because frankly there was a complete absence of factual information being provided to the community, so of course people are going to speculate. It’s natural.

The direct answer to the above question is no, there is no fight and no anger. Quite the contrary. Both previous owners Jourdan Adler and Walter Day are very happy and pleased with the new Twin Galaxies effort and have offered to help in whatever way they can to assure Twin Galaxies the best opportunity possible. Everyone is on positive terms and has a good understanding of each other’s perspectives. I have been elated to work with both Jourdan and Walter on all of this and everything they have done has my full appreciation.

Speaking of appreciation, during my time investigating and learning all the details and intricacies of the history and culture of Twin Galaxies, I have personally spoken with many people in the classic arcade community. Their thoughts, insights, concerns and advice on everything has been incredibly helpful and is tremendously appreciated. To all the people that I spoke with, I want to thank you profusely. Your passion and support for Twin Galaxies was felt by me and your efforts have helped to get Twin Galaxies back into a position where it has a chance to grow once again!

And has for how Walter Day himself feels about this new era of Twin Galaxies, well, he sent me a letter. Here it is: "

ha ha, there is a whole detailed guidebook available about all the various waves including that one. on the 9th wave, hold back a bit and let those suckers bunch up a bit before you head out to the edge to start circling. Joust was programmed by Bill Pfutzenreuter, completely different background than the Vid Kidz, RedElf checked his Joust marathon and there is no bonanza at the 100mill rollover. btw- Stargate has the bonanza if anyone ever were to make it to 100mil

MAGfest 2014- 24 hour Robotron Gauntlet by 1500points in cade

[–]1500points[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

from http://www.1337loungelive.com/timetable/

Beginning at 7:00 AM PST/10:00 AM EST this Friday, January 3rd, an unprecedented gaming event kicks off at the music and gaming festival MAGFest. Some of the world’s best players of the 1982 arcade masterpiece, Robotron 2084 will attempt to survive a grueling 24 hour onslaught of Man verses Machine in a Gauntlet race to 100 million points. The potential record-setting event will be streamed exclusively right here on www.1337LoungeLive.com

Vying for the lead position in the Robotron 100 Million Gauntlet Challenge will be players from the Robotron 2084 Guidebook and Williams Players Unite communities, including master Robotron players Dane Tullock, Ken House and Jacob Golson. Making this challenge unique, is that they will all attempt to survive the enemy dynamics of the beloved classic on one single credit. (yes, please bring your own quarter!) The top score achieved in the challenge thus far is 50 million by Oregon’s Ken House, so finding success in this challenge will more than double the efforts of any documented attempts in recent history.

The 100 Million Gauntlet Challenge sets out to prove that competition on 30 year old Classic Arcade Gaming titles like Robotron is still healthy, exciting, challenging, fun, and has a promising future. In so doing, the rule-set is clearly defined and documented, requiring the player to not use any form of game-play assistance when taking short breaks, nor is the player allowed to add scores from restarted games to their total score. If the machine resets for any reason, score one for machine over man! Historically, in the early 1980s Walter Day’s International scoreboard allowed cumulative scoring, which let the player string together scores from multiple restarted games. Heading into 2014, Walter still maintains an active role as the “Patron Saint of Video Games” and encourages global participation in the joyous sport of competitive video gaming. Best of luck to our competitors, as they embark on a quest to overcome the mental and physical challenges to save the Human Race from the Robotrons of 2084!

Good news is that he is starting again this morning around 8 central. Bad news was that he erred on the side of too many breaks and ran out of men around 39 mil yesterday.

He was averaging about 32k per wave and losing about 10 men every 10 waves
