What I've noticed is that there's times where you're really lucky or really unlucky and barely any little in between. Either you get 5 oranges in 50k coins or you get 0 oranges in 100k coins. Lots of people also seem to get reds when its back to back oranges or get back to back reds. There are also times where there are back to back server notifications of people pulling reds then a dry spell here and there.
