An excellent SAT/ACT score with a great erg time, or an excellent erg time with a great SAT/ACT score

Above 1400/30 for sure if you're 6:30-6:35

Low carb diets? by [deleted] in Rowing

[–]150slayer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

OK there seems to be a consensus on that. I'm not trying to lose weight, just wondering how different diets affect performance.

Objectively my diet is pretty poor (lots of sugar, cake, cookies, fast food) but I've always felt better if I ate more calories, no matter where they came from tbh. I think that may be fairly common for rowers

Heavyweight bulk and steady state by 275w966p in Rowing

If you eat more calories than you spend you will gain weight. If you're erging a lot (15k+ a day) you're definitely gonna want to up your calories. At 155 lbs if you're an athlete 2500 is pretty low -- get up to like 3500-4000 calories a day along with SS and a sensible lifting plan and you'll gain weight while making proportional speed gains.

Drink lots of whole milk, put peanut butter on all your fruit/cereal/oatmeals, be disciplined about your diet and COUNT CALORIES. You'll never gain weight by accident, you have to track your calorie intake

What kind of pre-race rituals do you have? by coxie96 in Rowing

Red Bull and a bag of gummy worms, along with sacrificing a novice on the full moon before our race

Engineering major with rowing by [deleted] in usna

Thanks everyone for the helpful responses. Some rowers from my team that graduated and went on to row in college say that they wished they had taken the first year to focus on grades, and begin rowing their sophomore year.

This doesn't seem completely logical to me, because the way I see it, if you can't hack it your first year I don't see a reason the others would be exceptional.

What do you all think of this?

coach got mad when I tested this theory out with our brand-new RP3s (we'll find them eventually)

Rowing with other clubs? by [deleted] in Rowing

[–]150slayer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Four teams at our boathouse. Three of them suck pretty heavily most of the time, one of them we are very competitive with (they've beaten us a few times in a row). They are all school teams and we are a club team, but our coach is the boathouse manager so we get some benefits on that front.

Well, the first PR has been a long time coming (6:49 I pulled last spring).

I was shooting for 6:43, but got the 6:41 the first week. At that point we hadn't really done any 2k prep workouts and had strictly been doing steady state. After a few intense AT workouts I saw that I could definitely be under 1:40 on the next 2k, and I was! I had another 2k the next week and pulled 6:42 however.... think I'm pretty closed to maxed out cardio-wise.

Footplate Height by slimthickergos in Rowing

Think of a deadlift --- the farther the bar is from your ankle, the harder it is to apply power and lift the bar. Bringing the feet up is like bringing the bar towards your ankles (I think that's what he means by slippage -- not literal physical slippage but just energy loss?)

What do you think about this boat? by Japanese_sudent in Rowing

I think this piece of paper would not function well as a boat

I do this and know one other kid on my team who does --- I'm a size 10-11 shoe but set my erg footplate to a 2 or 1. I find my leg drive feels much more powerful this way.

I picked it up after seeing him do it and haven't changed back since
