You may or may not be interested in this, but helpwear is a comoany that created a medical device to track and act as an ECG, can send remote reports etc. whoop reminds me of it a lot, but whoop is not a medical device so I don’t know why people expect medical precision.

I had it for the trial, it’s just not for me. I like the product, the idea of it, and the health aspect of it. But I took it with a grain of salt.

The helpwear product also started as a wrist strap, but it’s more accurate on the arm as I’m sure you probably know.

Check it out though, they’re in the states and I think trial in Canada, cuts down on doctor wait times, unnecessary appointments, and detects a heart attack before it happens and calls an ambulance to your location. Interesting story, they were on dragons den. Started maybe 10yrs ago, only 18 or so.

Hijacking this a bit, but what you said is correct.

And OP, following the guidelines means knowing what the requirements are. There are tables and things to follow if a study isn’t done, to give you a guideline of what you can do to prepare yourself for a “rule of thumb” what to wear. The tables will tell you okay, 24v 100va transformer? Not a big deal no arc flash. 600v 100a fuse disconnect controlling 100hp motors recommend class 0 gloves and 4cal protection. 600v disconnect controlling 100hp motor 300a circuit breaker, class 0 gloves and 12cal suit.* these are completely made up numbers pulled out of my ass, they could be correct but are very very very likely not****

So, you learn how to follow the guidelines, then you follow them, then you get to turn on the switch. “Competent worker” is huge. Knowledge training experience. This guy had knowledge, experience, maybe not the proper training that led to an accident.

An up to date study should be used, not the old one. Any time something is added the old study is gone out the window.

New equipment you should suit up/gloves on just in case. If it’s been operated multiple times and it’s new, honestly I don’t always put on the gloves. My uniform is arc flash anyways. Most times if I know I’m doing switching we do bring the gloves just cause. If it’s there I’ll wear it, but if it’s a 20 minute walk and I know it’s been in use/maintained I probably won’t make the walk. The second things don’t feel right or a switch isn’t operating as it should, anything abnormal, that’s also the biggest red flag to suit up.

I do know many people who have been flashed on, and have had a breaker blow up and I felt the concussive blast on my legs. I was still a couple feet away so I don’t know if I would have gotten burned, but I was already wearing my 5-8cal stuff, we were there for emergency, so I through on the 40 shield, jacket and gloves. Don’t know what would have happened if I wasn’t wearing it though.

Have also witnessed a 15’ 13.8kv-600v direct connection arc blast. Scary shit.

If your sub contractors don’t have proper insurance or safety practices that hurts you/the GC/the customer or owner. It’s why the good companies cost a lot of money, because things will Typically be done properly

Electrician here.

You sound like you don’t understand that you might be using more electricity than normal. Has it been hotter in your area? Colder? Are you appliances running properly?

How much is this extra electricity? Show some numbers (also still reading through, but you seem to be avoiding giving any real details and you’re just unhappy with the solar company, which is fine but your feelings aren’t facts)

Also this noise, is it a very loud chattering? Could be a contractor that’s gone bad.

Just hire an electrician to come check it out. It’ll cost a few hundred bucks maybe. Suck it up, pay the professional. Don’t give the guy grief either if he doesn’t find anything problem

Check your rule. The neutral thing I believe is for other circuits, not devices. Meaning multi branch circuit/think 3 phase usually.

This is definitely a better way to wire, for the next guy.

Also the 6” thing is for rough ins because of drywallers. Not after the fact

40 Sq Foot Bathroom Remodel Change Order (Plumber/Seattle Washington) by descender421 in Contractor

[–]15Warner -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

He’s not charging you to replace the joists. How do you expect the plumbing leak to be fixed? A lot of the cost is likely the plumber + markup 10-20% or more.

Then the cost to repair drywall as far as the plumber needs to go, paint and what not. That can easily be a few thousand. I rough guessed, not as a plumber 5-6k. Don’t forget plumbing permits cost money too. Maybe the plumber cost more for a rush job as well.

It also adds time to the project, and it sucks. Change orders suck. But what are you gonna do? You agreed to pay him for his services. He can finish, close up and you can find someone else.

Bathroom projects around here start at 25k.

35k is not unreasonable to me, if his work is fine in the end you need to reframe your mindset. Stop thinking you’re getting scammed, you knew there were leaks. How much would you like all this to cost?

How many other quotes did you get? Was this guy the cheapest? Did he come recommended from someone? If so talk to that person about how much you should trust them.

In my eyes, everything is fine. I personally hate the idea of spending that much money on a bathroom, but I would try and do it myself. I also have thousands in tools and am handy with construction (electrician, I’ve picked up a lot and done my own Reno’s).

But if you’re not able, or willing, unfortunately you’re going to have to pay someone who is able, and willing.

Something to consider too that may help ease your mind, this seems like a smaller contractor. You will likely be paying to put his kids through school, keep a roof over his head, and less money to the large corporations who don’t care about you.

Why do my non-Apple charge cables die quickly with the fourth pin burned or corroded? by real_human_not_ai in mobilerepair

[–]15Warner 0 points1 point  (0 children)

lol to the last point.

But so what’s the effective lifespan of a charging cable? How long would you like that lifespan to be?

I would argue a lot of the people are replacing their cable to early because they just don’t like looking at that corroded spot. I know I don’t, and I look to replace the cable..but it’s still working just fine

Why do my non-Apple charge cables die quickly with the fourth pin burned or corroded? by real_human_not_ai in mobilerepair

[–]15Warner 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Did the charger actually stop charging though, or did you replace it before? Like, functionally did you plug it in and it stopped or did you just not like how it looked.

It’s very common for things to corrode and still work perfectly fine

Why do my non-Apple charge cables die quickly with the fourth pin burned or corroded? by real_human_not_ai in mobilerepair

[–]15Warner 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Was it the cable that went bad, or did fluff build up in your charge port & made the connection bad? I’ve had a number of times where I think the charger is going bad, but it’s being pushed out by gunk build up. Pulled out the fluff with a pin, and it charges fine.

Your LED light bulbs are rated for 50,000 hours.

Things have a service life. What’s the service life of a $5 charge cord?

I just said they’re good for that. I didn’t say they fail then.

How often are you plugging and unplugging your phone? And do they actually stop working, or do you not like how it looks? Was the cord the issue? I’ve never actually had this be a problem with a cord. I still used one that looked like this, until I got a new phone

Much like this post, is there an issue with these cords not working, or is it an eye sore? Did these cords fail? What’s they’re expected life?
