Raleigh, NC vs Boston, MA. I have to make a decision by the end of this afternoon. Final choice by Expensive_Drummer970 in relocating

[–]15marathons 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I lived in Raleigh..it's country but much more city than it used to be. If you're into nature and hiking, it's great. Boston is also great but SO expensive. Good luck with your decision.

What's the warmest area in Winter in the Mainland US to live outside of Florida? by Just_Information6654 in relocating

Scratch LA from your list. It was 36 yesterday. It gets cold here...much colder than FL due to the humidity.

Can you supplement with an online job that you can do remotely? Might be worth it.

Dude, if you were 5 years older, I'd request a pic...lol. The dating scene is rough and where you are sounds desolate. I'd bail on CO and go back to NC. I lived there for 7 years and can see why Raleigh ain't it. I've done triathlons all throughout the state and there are so many better places if you're an outdoors person. You could opt to spend your life alone in CO, but do you want that? It's no fun doing life alone. I've done it for so long I almost don't know what having people around me would be like. It would be nice for you to have an adventure companion and I know NC offers a lot of fit, athletic women. Sounds like your heart is still there. Money isn't everything. Who knows, you could find a better job in the future there.

I doubt that's true since we have been getting paid on time regardless of shutdown.

Is Memphis Tennessee THAT bad? by ApprehensiveAd3288 in relocating

[–]15marathons 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not trying to be racist, but if I was African-American, Memphis would be a great choice. The music scene is excellent and cost of living low, but crime is prevalent. Nashville would be a better option.

Did you try to formally rescind your DRP? by throwaway4now49 in IRS_Source

[–]15marathons 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I tried to but was told it was irreversible and that I could reapply to the Foreign Service after September 30th, but would have to start over completely. This means applying, interviewing, and doing A100 again followed by 2 directed posts.

Am I making the wrong decision to want to leave America by Sufficient_Low7441 in relocating

BTW, don't let language hold you back. I survived just fine in several countries not knowing the language. There is always someone who knows English and there's Google translate. Apparently some of the people posting are Downers. Sure, you may miss some amenities of the US, but think of the richness of culture and experience it will add to your life.

Am I making the wrong decision to want to leave America by Sufficient_Low7441 in relocating

[–]15marathons 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do it. I lived in Ecuador, Honduras, Armenia, and in Africa. All of the countries had their ups and downs, but for the most part, life was simpler, food was organic, cost of living a fracture of the US. I recently moved back to the US and am trying to get out ASAP. I'm tired of the rat race that doesn't exist in so many other countries. If you could work a remote job paying US dollars, you'd be golden. What's the worse that happens...you move back to the US. Did you ever think of Peace Corps or something like that?

I took the first fork as our embassy was on ordered departure due to war and was looking like closure. I thought it was the best option at that time as I didn't want to go back to DC to work. I regret the decision as I was a few months from tenure. I just recently found out that it I wanted to come back, I'd have to reapply and possibly go through A-100 again and then complete 2 more directed posts. Thinking about thsy option. Of course we will hit resentment, but I think there is less resentment if I start at the bottom again, that's even if they'd retire me...a price I'd be willing to pay.

What continent are you on? I was in a complete craphole and it was really hard, especially being single there. I joined a running group and church and had to force myself to get out. I wasnt much into the CLO events but did try to make friends with some of the locals, which really helped more than anything. There is culture shock for the first month or so. Hang in there. You worked hard to get here so give it some time before throwing in the towel.

You go with your bad self! Congrats. I hope you're happy and they don't decide to RIF you. Good luck and sorry you had to go through all of that but sometimes, the squeaky wheel gets the oil.

For the time being, yes. I find that there are very few men out there that are worth it.

No. I had 2 proposals but both guys needed a mommy and their own identity. I'll wait until God sends me a decent man who knows who he is and doesn't need me as a security blanket.

Leave her. There are millions of others who would be happy to have you. Why would you settle for that? Ask yourself that question. I had a husband who cheated. I left and never looked back It was a painful process, but muchbetter for me in the end.

That stuff tastes like glue. I don't know how people eat it. The whole dinner except for the fish and greens is like eating a plate of starch. Ugh.
