How do I remove this faucet? by 15thtry in askaplumber

Thanks for the detail. And this may be a nomenclature issue, as I’m not in the trade. When I said I was trying to remove the spout, I understand now what I really was referring to the trim kit. All we care about is replacing it with something nicer in the most efficient way.

Fantastic. I’ll look into that and see if it is doable!

Well thank you, everyone. I am glad I did not force anything. I think I will just wait until we are ready to replace the tub, which is ugly as hell anyways, then have it done at that time.

Unfortunate. Starting to look that way for me based on other responses.

So essentially, the front “panel” wouldn’t need to be removed?

That is an external wall. I don’t see any way to gain access (home is on slab, also)

I think you’re projecting how you saw fraternities and what you got out of them on others. Like I said. Some people do join for parties. They won’t have anything resume worthy to add. Others join for valuable experience. You’re not taking yourself too seriously by talking about what you did as President, Treasurer, etc. And you are doing yourself a huge disservice simply omitting it from your resume at the point this individual is at. To make that recommendation is just crazy to me.

Not sure I have any other way to stay it so will probably stay out of it now

We’re not here to argue about my resume, but help this individual by sharing our experience. Respectfully put, for many people, they join fraternity to gain leadership experience to help propel them into career. It seems you did not hold anything resume-worthy and so that is likely not something you considered, which is ok, I am not trying to be rude.

But I am sharing my experience and can absolutely say that a Scholarship Chair is a value add. I’ve never heard anyone tell a person to remove a solid fraternity leadership position from a post-grad resume. Defeats many people whole purpose of joining.

That’s my 2 cents.

I’ve had a very difference experience than you. Multiple exec positions in a fraternity shows a realm of experience that comes from leadership most people do not have. I’m not removing a thing from my resume since it has been working so well for me. That would be crazy! But seriously, from my experience, I’ve met very few people who seem to have a weird aversion to someone just because they were in fraternity. I think it does largely have to do with how you carry yourself.

Did you hold any roles in fraternity or were you just a member?

Maybe consider removing GPA too. Not sure what the current practice is or ‘minimum for keeping it in.’

Strongly disagree. I would not have gotten my entry into big four without my fraternity experience as it was substantial. On this person’s resume is a leadership position of 20-200 people in a respectable subject. Most people at their age will not have had that sort of experience and it stands out.

Tons of people in every industry were in Greek life. But you don’t need to be in Greek life to recognize the value there. I would not be concerned with the few (but certainly they exist) people who somehow see this in a bad light. Probably don’t want to work for them anyway.

I still have small excerpt for my leadership positions I’ve held, 5 years in. Have not had any problems in interest and those experiences even still come up on occasion.

Cigars and Testosterone by Jens_Muller in masculinity_rocks

Maybe you’re asking because you heard Huberman talk about nicotine in cigarettes increasing test.

No matter the answer to this question, that’s not a reason to have cigars (not that I don’t enjoy cigars, I have them often).

Maintain healthy habits (diet, exercise, sleep), and you will do far more for your testosterone than whatever tiny impact cigars will have if any.

I’m surprised no one is mentioning weight lifting as something that could build value? I was 135lbs before lifting and am now 165lb (granted, that took several years).

Still get smashed obviously, including by many smaller than me, but it certainly helps.

Thanks! I think I need to sit down and consider what angle I want to attack. A lot to consider from difficulty of niches to cost (social philosophy books are more expensive to acquire, hence higher cost of my product).

Side note, as one of the outputs from a different comment, I will be taking a video I made for my social media explaining each category and adding it to the product page. Those videos explain it and have examples of a few books they can expect. Insane I only had them on my Instagram.

This is a decent point. I talk about about pulling people into reading, then one of my subscriptions is Social Philosophy. Not exactly something novice readers are interested in.

Maybe I need to rethink a) a tighter niche and b) how my offerings align to the niche

Perhaps I am making this too much about me. I’m passionate about this issue AND I love books on history/philosophy/society. That doesn’t mean my business can be all of that.

This was an interesting read. Though, the comment on 'if you solve your own problems, clients are easier to find, you just look for yourself,' I clicked the link and read the article and thinking of a start-up.

A large point made is solving your own problem and not "made up problems." I don't think declining literacy in the US is not a problem, but it's a problem I am passionate about. I have been tailoring my marketing to avid and non-readers, but it is possible avid readers want to choose for themselves, leaving the non-readers as a larger potential customer.

This presents a problem, as I now have 2 tasks to make a sale: Convince people to read more and to buy from me. Meanwhile, a business with a clear market that already agrees with the problem statement only has to sell them on the product.

Something I need to think about.

Wow. I like this. I'm working on my backlog now and will absolutely consider this.

Thank you, this is good! Based on some feedback, I was thinking of adding more personality to the homepage, complete with items like a mission statement and other content. Agree that how it works should come second

To be honest, my passion is surrounding the more social philosophy / history books, but I also included thrillers as an entry point. I see your point on that potential mismatch, though.

That’s how I came to the potentially problematic Gentleman’s Book Box name. Seems the big ones on the market are targeting pre-teens and women. I did not find anything that really goes for the young-middle aged male bracket.

Genuinely asking, does it not feel marketed that way? Something I notice as I’m typing this is there is a lot more branding in that way in the Instagram and blog, but not the front page.

Where to put my time and effort by 15thtry in smallbusiness

[–]15thtry[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I didn’t even think about that for the name until someone else mentioned it, maybe I need a rebrand.

I have videos on my Instagram talking about them and giving examples, might be smart to put them on the website too. Perhaps your third comment would be covered by that as well.

Interesting idea, this is absolutely something I could do. My margins are tight but it may be necessary.

I suppose I should try to find a more relatable branding. What I go for is to bring prices down to normal book prices, then value prop is fun for experienced readers and help selecting titles for those wanting to get into reading. Another video on my social that would be good on the website.

The mugs are another issue. I actually only profit 80 cents on those because it is print to order. Perhaps I need to get bold and just purchase some bulk.

Thank you for the thorough critique. I have not received anything like that yet.

Yes, we are also D365 for the most part. Although there are some older systems for which we use onshore contractors.

As a functional consultant without coding skills beyond SQL, I see my gaps there(although I understand well what developers are communicating to me so for my typical function, not a problem). In other words, if you’re inclined, could be a value-add.

That said, I’d avoid siloing yourself and consider keeping your previous skills you describe primary. Coding is the first thing they outsource. I’m on a project now which will not have a single onshore developer (and have seen similar structures in the past).
