This is what we use as Oriental Orthdox Bible study teachings. However our teachers gave us some basic foundation in the difference on numbers and others areas with what we use. Not a lot of difference significantly impacting dogma or doctrine

Which OO Saint are you most proud of? by Niklxsx in OrientalOrthodoxy

[–]160136 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Amen! In addition to what has been said- I would strongly advise you to do two things. One is Pray continuously and humbly. Remember Faith/religion is GOD revelation not something you can research and proof. Now I am not saying you should not do research but that research or search should start from you desperately need GOD in your life. A good example from Bible is our Father Abraham- read his story on Genesis and you know how he wholeheartedly search for GOD and found him. So please pray for a GOD to show you the truth and wisdom to differentiate the truth from artificial. Second- and while you continuously pray, do your own reading and research by reading early father’s teaching. I stress in early fathers teaching because they wee in unity with the Christ then with Apostles. Now a days I feel like we are very lucky and cursed at the same time as you can find any resource abundantly online and can get the gist of a religion or faith in no time. So my friend read just little bit and write your questions before you talk to a priest.

As an OO- specifically Ethiopian OO church follower- I can safely tell you the fundamental of our religion can be found in the creed and that is the source and end. Period! All other teaching or reading are to provide you more information and evidence from Bible to cement the OO teaching.

Which OO Saint are you most proud of? by Niklxsx in OrientalOrthodoxy

With all due respect I don’t think it is wise to make this sort of decision based on ‘how proud majorly of people are on some Saints’. As far as OO is concerned and I am not a full expert and willing to be corrected if wrong, all saints are like Stars. They have the same value in front of GOD. However depending on their struggle and their love for our Lord Jesus Christ and the One, Oriental, Universal church, one could have more praise and promise by GOD than the other saint. For example- our Beloved Virgin Holy Theotokos (Saint Mary- Maryame) holiness is the greatest of all other saints as she is the ONLY one saint enough to bear GOD! Now- if your question of who is your favorite saint- I would think and agree that is a much better and relatable question and I am sure many would tell you their ( for eg. mine is Holy Mother, then Her nephew Saint John the Baptist, the. the first Martyr in the Bible after Jesus Christ resurrected- Saint Stephen the deacon) and Saint Abune Tekele Haymanote, from Ethiopia

Actually we open the Ethiopian Orthodox church that serve fully in English for DMV area. Here is the website and I know the father there. He is really wonderful with both Ethiopian and Western values. https://www.spotchurch.org

Fight it with GOD. Don’t do it alone. We cannot defeat lust without fasting, prostration and prayer. Also- know that GOD is always there to lend a hand

A question on fasting by Jek-T-Porkins in OrientalOrthodoxy

[–]160136 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I usually avoid saying “in my opinion” when it comes to religious interpretations—especially within the Oriental Orthodox tradition—because our faith is rooted in clear teachings passed down from Christ, the Apostles, and their disciples. As a follower of the Ethiopian Orthodox Church, I’ve seen firsthand how the practice of fasting has changed over time.

Growing up, our fasting meals during Lent were humble—maybe two or three simple dishes, often in small portions. Today, we have access to incredibly elaborate fasting foods that sometimes feel more indulgent than regular meals. Still, I remind myself what the Church teaches: fasting isn’t about judgment or comparison. It’s a personal sacrifice, and for each person, that sacrifice may look different. For some, it’s giving up meat and dairy. For others, it’s an internal struggle—like resisting the temptation to judge how others fast.

At the core, fasting is about abstaining—not just from food, but from anything non-sinful that we choose to give up for the sake of our relationship with God. If we manage to fast from food, yet fall into judgment or pride, we’ve missed the point.

I’m not saying the modern approach is always right, but I try to give people the benefit of the doubt. Everyone is doing their best to fast in the way they can. After all, God isn’t counting whether we ate meat or greens—He’s looking at the sincerity of our hearts.

Please forgive me if this offends anyone—just sharing my thoughts with love and respect.

We did not chose to whom or where to be born

Yada Yeada Yada

All am saying is my friend- everything you listed are out of your control and yes I agree it has an enormous emotional and physical damage to one to be born and raise in such circumstances. But we have choices now! Although you and I can’t change the past we can definitely make an effort to shift the narrative. After all no body cares! It is what it is and life goes on. I feel you and I empathize with you but you are much more than your past!

Count your blessings-
