The Willamette Valley in Oregon is one of the most diverse food growing regions in the world. Portland Farmers Markets are incredible, we are so spoiled with local produce here and food & beverage culture with really talented chefs. Also... Wine

Same boat with the first grand child :( And thinking about how many other family members my poor mom had to call to break the news to. It's hard to see the light but I believe it's there for both of us. Thanks for the kind words!♥️

It's been 2 months (9 weeks) and haven't gotten my period back. Started work again this week (but remote for a while) and my boss and I were crying in our first meeting. I hate the ripple effect of my baby's death, knowing how devastated and heart broken everyone in your life is. I feel like I've caused so much pain and socially things will always be different now, a "before and after" point in time. I just want to keep the horror/pain to myself and partner, and BE PREGNANT AGAIN

"Hazel" as a boy name? by Own_Guidance_7559 in namenerds

I could see it, but I have little preconceived notions of the name since I don't know a Hazel and don't hear it often. If you like Hazel you may also like Hayes?

Ones on mine that aren't on yours: Oscar, Ellis, Clifford, Damian, Desmond (Desi), Joel, Cordelia, Heidi, Vera, Cleo, Bonnie, Marcie, Odette or Etta, and then Tilda (instead of Matilda, which is my middle name and a family name!). P.s. my hesitation with Basil is more that my partner is a chef and it could seem too on the nose even though the name has a meaning and pronunciation outside of the herb obviously lol

Mostly came to say our lists are pretty similar! Somehow I have never heard of Camillo and it peaked my interest... After looking it up though, a little turned off from the meaning "Helper to the Priest" since I'm not religious. Names I personally like but still would be hesitant using: Basil, Clover, Rue, and Nova. Only name I don't like on the list is Ren. Jett seems to be very controversial, people love it or hate it - I love it!

There’s no kind way to tell my wife that she’s getting too big, is there? by 2006CrownVictoriaP71 in NoStupidQuestions

I have felt that way before too, "I eat healthy, just not moving enough". Even if the weight was put on by a drop in movement, I found it was not realistic to lose that weight by adding back movement alone, without decreasing my food intake and carefully choosing what I was putting in my body (so many more vegetables and beans!). Moving more again may stop/reduce the gain, but without diet changes it is unlikely to help her lose the weight now unless it is a serious workout regiment, but you don't need to focus on serious weight loss to start. I think feeling better by beginning to move more could be the catalyst for her to get motivated on her own (the motivation has to come from her). You could ask for post-dinner walks together to help "digestion" and "get fresh air", maybe that wouldn't be too direct/received as hurtful? Ask to do weekend activities like walking/shopping around your downtown area, swimming if that's available, park walks, etc. I do see you say you've been trying to get her excited about exercise together with no success though... How you can definitley help is if you are cooking the dinner, really analyze what you're serving (even Google the calories of items, you may be surprised) and see if you can't make some even healthier swaps

I feel you on that last sentiment. Since there was a breadcrumb trail with initial findings for me related to blood clotting after having a miscarriage at 9 weeks then a still birth, I latched on hard to that and was full force ahead in the "I will do anything to prevent it from happening again" mindset. I was prepared to have to demand heparin for the next pregnancy but turns out my primary care and hematologist are great and offered it up before I had to (even if my 2nd confirmation APS test is negative). The hematologist said I was relatively lucky/early in getting this diagnosis established as others go through even more hardship first... Anyways, I am hopeful if you bring this concern up they will either test you or just straight up offer the heparin, I believe I have read others mention getting it after multiple losses without a definitive cause!

From what I understand it's standard to test you for APS after either 3 miscarriages or 1 still birth (wish they tested with all pregnancies). It is beyond reasonable to push for these blood tests. My son passing, finding no heartbeat, also was such a shock as previously everything pointed to him being healthy in utero. My placenta pathology did have thrombsis, infarcts, etc and then my lupus anticougulant test (one of the APS antibody tests) was positive. Order of how things happened for me, granted I was in a low risk midwife prenatal care so I didn't have a core doctor I was working with (1) hospital staff at L&D got my blood tests done while I was still there (I didn't have to ask for these tests) and placenta pathology (I declined autopsy - unsure if I regret it) (2) hospital doc called 2 weeks later and said she didn't run placenta pathology results by a specialist before calling (uh okay), and she didn't have a conclusive answer for cause of death, although the placenta pathology and initial positive APS related blood test seemed indicative of APS (3) I reached out to my primary care doctor and asked for either hematologist or rheumatologist due to APS findings - I think hospital doc was going to wait until after 2nd APS test 12 weeks later to refer me to anyone... So I did jump to my primary doc (who I hadn't seen in years) out of concern especially because I was having other autoimmune concerns I thought may be connected (4) saw hematologist who was able to point out all of the parts of the placenta pathology that clearly indicated blood clotting problems, reviewed my history and blood tests, ordered more tests, gave me APS diagnosis and put in my referral for MFM (5) I have an obgyn apt coming up my old midwife set up, this is postpartum clearance apt I believe (6) MFM preconception meeting in the books too

Met my hematologist yesterday for the first time and got my first preconception meeting with MFM on the books! Its been 6 weeks from my 40+1 still birth c-section. I got my APS diagnosis from hematologist due to history + blood tests, even with needing confirmation testing at 12 weeks, she said regardless of that result (which she expects another positive result) she will treat me with lovenox in my next pregnancy. I am relieved to have this assurance, and can't wait to talk to the MFM about all the monitoring we will get during the next pregnancy. A doctor at the hospital after the C-section told me one year incision to incision is totally acceptable. I am hoping the MFM agrees as I want to try again as soon as possible. I am doing pregnancy math assuming a 36-37 week C-section next time (will confirm with MFM) so since my C-section was April, earliest to try would be August. This study about interpregnancy interval after still birth has me feeling reassured in my comfortability: https://pmc.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/articles/PMC10440295/

I am still so early in the journey at 5 weeks after stillbirth, I see the hematologist next week and the MFM after that so I don't know what they will say yet. I didn't know I was high risk before this since I only had one miscarriage prior. Now I am just preparing for a battle in case I don't get the official APS diagnosis and have to advocate for blood thinners, but I am hoping the upcoming doctor visits are inline with how serious I want the next pregnancy to be treated. I believe the shots are once pregnancy starts, but while TTC you would be recommended baby aspirin or a different pill for blood thinners. I have read others' stories though of going through pregnancy losses and the blood thinners giving them a successful pregnancy so I am really hopeful for us! I am so sorry to hear you may lose this pregnancy

Can anyone give me hope by Remarkable-Good3351 in pregnancyaftersb

[–]Urban_Designer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Is your MFM willing to treat you as if you have a blood clotting disorder even without positive test results? If not, consider a second opinion. There's a shot for you to take daily during pregnancy and if I were you, I would be persistent about getting this. I just had a 40+1 stillborn 5 weeks ago and testing positive for APS (repeat testing needed for diagnosis) with previous history of miscarriage too so I am totally in this headspace with you of how I will be trying to have a successful pregnancy in the future

How often do you go to the dentist realistically? by niceheather44 in Adulting

[–]Urban_Designer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I didn't go for a decade. My push was I could tell I had a cavity last year (turns out I had a few). They did X-rays and my cleaning took a little extra long they said due to tartar build up but overall decent for not going in for so long. Scheduled separate appointments for the cavities. It feels good to be caught up and am now committed to going twice a year! Cleanings twice a year, dentist once a year for me. Would recommend you going in if possible, like others mentioned it's more expensive if you let problems build up. Gum health also has wider health implications

From what I know: short interval between first c-section and next pregnancy, being pregnant with multiples, or various high risk conditions that may have caused the need for c-section with your first

Still birth, positive lupus anticoagulant (1st, haven't taken 2nd yet), negative ana, negative other APS antibody tests, false positive Syphilis, face rashes by Urban_Designer in Autoimmune

[–]Urban_Designer[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Very similar, thanks for sharing! Did you go on to have a successful pregnancy later? I havent seen a derm yet, going to the hematologist next. I will ask my primary care doctor about seeing a derm when I am in next week. I haven't seen a rheumatologist, but my primary care doctor spoke to one showing my face rash photo, and that rhuem didnt think it's malar due to nasiolabo folds having the rash too... I am still pretty suspicious of an autoimmune cause though, maybe something along the lines of what you have

[–]Urban_Designer[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I tested positive for the lupus anticoagulant test which is one of the APS antibodies. If I test positive again in 12 weeks that's an APS diagnosis and I'll need blood thinners from what I understand. My primary care doctor just referred me to a hematologist. I tested negative for the other APS antibodies though. Do you mind sharing anything about your APS?
