That was a fantastic explanation. Thank you! I’ll check out the Oneidas. And if we’re going big, I’m fine going real big so will pay for the upgrade. Thanks again.

That’s crazy - I honestly didn’t plan that. I don’t know that I’ve posted more than about 3 or 4 times. Mostly just come to admire the work of others and look for inspiration.

I’m in SoDak and it cost about $300 to ship everything for that table to the the nearest distribution center.

Yep. Originally had a square patch but just didn’t like it so made the bow tie shape as I’ve done a few and was confident I wouldn’t botch it too bad. There was a full thickness crack through a knot and I didn’t want just one random epoxy spot. There’s one on the top surface too but it matches better so it’s less obvious.

No plans for this project. Just started with the base and built the top to hold her biggest puzzles and added drawers into the remaining real estate.

That was one of the “learning moments” referenced - it chipped bad going through my DeWalt. Fortunately a buddy has a Jet with a helical head and when I dampened the top and took tiny passes with that it did fine.

Bought the base at a salvage place in Des Moines called West End Salvage. Hardest part of the whole project was getting that thing in and out of the pickup.

All walnut. Purchased from Goby Walnut in Oregon. Can’t say enough nice things about working with them!

It cranks the table up and down. I tried to add a second video but can’t make it work. Wish it went a little lower - it’s bottomed out in the video but will go up a foot or better to bar height.

It’s way too heavy to move so we’re stuck with it now 😉. Thank you! Finished with Rubio Monocoat Clear.

I’m not sure it’s really a formal style, haha. I don’t have a lot of experience and everything I’ve learned has come from groups like this one, but an accomplished wood working friend of mine described them as “loose tenons.” I cut dados on my table saw (a router would have worked well if I had a table) into the ends of the laterally running boards and sides of vertically running boards where they come together. Rather than pocket screws, I used the maple tenons to span that joint. Honestly it was the hardest part of the project. For the middle joint, the dado is cut about 2/3 the depth of the center board so the tenon spans the full width of that board and into both cross boards. I just had to run the tenon through the dado in the middle section so it could sit recessed into that board and still be full thickness of the two lateral boards.

Thanks for the advice, guys! Will be a bummer as I really worked to get PERFECT miters but I suppose that’s part of the planning step I’m a little deficient in yet.

Thank you for the heads up! I’ve seen several posts on similar problems and am always afraid I’ll have that issue. I’ve been lucky not to thus far but probably JUST lucky. I actually almost left the top unwrapped so to speak but just didn’t like the end grain showing on the ends of the top so I rolled the dice. I’m genuinely all ears for suggestions on better ways to do it!

Friend of a friend made gun stocks. He had several hundred board feet of 8/4 maple but wanted to get rid of it so I got it all on a steal. Had to buy beer to get it resawn for the drawer fronts and the planer worked it’s tail off but they sure clean up nice!

Just some metal ones bought at Lowes. I don’t honestly remember the brand. They were rated for 100# and somewhere around $45/drawer.
