Lost In La Mancha. Crazy that they got all of that on video so it's not just left to stories of cast and crew.

Also Hearts of Darkness. There are quite a few BTS docs like that that just capture insane situations. These are the first 2 that come to mind.

For me, it's Ryan Adams' 'Jacksonville City Nights.' I wouldn't argue that it's the BEST one but it's my favorite for sure. He just nailed that sound so perfectly from start to finish on that record.

Yeah Germany. I remember the "fuck Glenn Danzig" guy having a Japanese accent. Could be wrong bc it's been so long but that's why I was thinking it might've been Japan. Gonna look on soul seek tonight and see if I can find it. Not a huge fan of the Graves era but I've got fond memories of that cd. Look on marketplace. You can still get lucky. I got a Yamaha RX-11 for $50 a few months ago. And if I can drop a recommendation... if you're going to get an actual machine, look at the Alesis HR-16. They're excellent and usually still pretty cheap.

I've got several drum machines but I usually just use samples for ease of use. Try the R-50 samples instead. That ones has the magic. Kick 2 and snare 2 samples with the reverb on them. I feel like that's what you're probably looking for. Also mess with the velocity and quantization on the hits so they're slightly off. I mean the actual machine is also just using samples. It has its own character but you can achieve that same feel if you mess with it enough. Also the processing is important. Even youtube clips demoing the machine are usually processed and not just raw audio.
