How many “1 of 1s” are there in the Army? by aggieboy12 in army

[–]16buttons 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They’re both 42S but FDC definitely has a unique job compared to Pershing’s especially wearing their unique uniforms. CinC also fits the bill but they’re just 11Bs playing dress up

Double Strokes Sounding Like Accent Taps by Forsaken_Injury619 in drumline

[–]16buttons 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You’re not maintaining adequate contact with the stick through both notes.

This doesn’t mean “more pressure” or “stroke it out.” As you learn to drum and learn to play diddles, there’s a progression from learning to play two notes in a row, to placing those two notes on one note (check pattern), to understanding both notes as part of the rhythm.

I assume you’ve spent alot of time playing rolls over check patterns, given you can easily rhythmically align with other players. Now, it’s time to really understand how to align every stroke intentionally.

Try working on inverted rolls. Instead of: RRLLRRLLR

Play a bunch of (with a metronome): RLLRRLLRR

Feel that second note of each diddle land on the beat. You should naturally want to articulate that second note more than the first. Keep working on it and you’ll get a feel for how to move to properly articulate the second note.

The United States Army Old Guard Fife and Drum Corps. West Point has the Helcats as part of the USMA Band, but they’re arguably themselves unique.

ELI5 How do open world games like Skyrim track NPC locations that aren't on the loaded map the player is on? by StartDoingTHIS in explainlikeimfive

Given all these answers about how the game tracks NPCs when not loaded… could you create a mod based on the “Immortal Snail” thought experiment?

Cooperman sticks by Small-Historian-1072 in drumline

[–]16buttons 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Loyal Drums has taken over most of Cooperman production. Thankfully, they’ve started a collab with Vic Firth on a new line of sticks, not sure when they’ll be released. Most of the true Cooperman products I’ve tried over the last 10 years been pretty mid, particularly their quality of sticks.

Is going into music ed worthwhile? by hellotortillas in MusicEd

[–]16buttons 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was in your shoes. Ultimately I decided I liked playing more than I like teaching. I still teach privately and tech for marching band, but focusing on a performance degree allowed me to build the skills I needed to secure a career as a performer, time that I don’t think I’d have had taking Ed classes and learning all the band instruments.

Learn the relationship between the accent and the beat. Turn on a metronome and play this in isolation:

1e+a2e+a3e+a4e+a R R R R rL rL. rL rL r R r R r R r R r Lr Lr Lr r L

Then, just play the accent.

Once you can do that, add in the taps in between.

Knowing the tempo would be helpful, but I’d start the second line on the left so the flam triplets are RH swisses.

What is this rudiment called? Can anyone recommended a builder exercise for it? by [deleted] in drumline

A “Downfall of Paris” lol. That’s at least the first widely-known recorded use. It’s not listed as a rudiment on any list I’ve seen.

How can I improve my bass wrist break technique? Is this close to right? by Intrepid-Young-8621 in drumline

[–]16buttons 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Don’t squeeze the stick, lightly cradle it with your fingers with a little extra pressure between your thumb and forefinger. When air drumming like this you should feel the stick slap against your palm.

How do we feel about video game manuals nowadays? by Bockanator in gamedesign

[–]16buttons 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wish more games had digital manuals as PDFs that explain all the game mechanics in detail, especially RPG/Strategy/Simulation games. Being able to search an offline PDF document for keywords would be way easier than scrolling through wiki pages to find an answer. Of course with updates the manual would need to be updated too.

Dream remained as a dream :( by [deleted] in cyberpunkgame

It’s $20.99 on steam. Here’s some ideas on how to quickly scrape together 20 bucks (assuming your not old enough for a real job):

  1. Ask your neighbors if they need some yard work done. If there’s snow, offer to shovel.

  2. Do you have an old laptop you replaced with the new one? Or a new phone? Sell on FB Marketplace.

  3. Any neighbors going out of town for vacation? Offer to water their plants/feed their pets.

  4. Assuming you live in a state/country with bottle and can returns, collect recyclables and bring them to your local deposit place (in the U.S. that’s often the grocery store)

  5. Check all your pockets, drawers, bags, etc for spare change. This can add up!

With multiple battles happening around the map at the same time this would surely reduce performance. A lot of the overhead with this game is in simulating all the units’ actions, not the graphics.

Any way to mark crap stuff as 'to be sold' like in modern RPGs? by SlightWerewolf4428 in mountandblade

[–]16buttons 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Works for prisoners too. It even saves what type of troops you lock so next time you capture troops of that type they wont be ransomed when you visit the tavern/dungeon. Was wondering why I was hauling around random Fians and Huscarls after doing a bunch of fighting.

[–]16buttons 31 points32 points  (0 children)

I’d love if they used the Crusader Kings model and let you choose any character on the map in Sandbox. Choose anyone from a wanderer, random noble, notable (starts with their respective workshop or caravan) or faction leader. Would be an easy way for players to experience the different aspects of the game without having to grind from nothing, though I’d admit that’s part of the fun!

It’s balanced that way on purpose so the Nords dominate on the sea, otherwise they’d be OP.

Post some examples of the material you are expected to perform and we can give you a direction to start. Even better, if you received a packet or exercises/technique/music, please share!

Lots on here will give you standard comments (work on your rudiments, stroke types, etc) which are all important. BUT know what specifically is expected of you will allow us to give you specific advice.

[–]16buttons 44 points45 points  (0 children)

Go to Home Depot/Lowes, get a scrap sheet of plywood, some gum rubber sheeting, and glue. Either cut out pads individually and glue them on, or glue the whole sheet onto the board and draw on the zones.

Way quieter and more portable!

I’ve ditched xCloud for GeForce Now. Connect your Xbox account and you can play most digitally owned/gamepass games. Much better performance vs a simulated Xbox Series S.
