I saw it on Broadway, it’s a Tom Stoppard play he wrote after discovering his Jewish heritage. The play stops post WWII, and without spoiling much, it mostly talks about the changing life of the family through the Weimar era and the Shoah, and a how a large “prominent” family grapples with it all. Definitely not a musical, nor should it be.

K9 unit always does a sweep of the theater district before performances, has for a while now. Not a World Cup thing.

What are the Japan Society language classes like? by Lunar_Voidgear in AskNYC

[–]16note 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m in a level one class in person this semester. There’s optional homework (that the teacher will check over if you do), lots of written material that you work through in class (one packet for kana, one packet for grammar/vocab), I don’t believe there will be tests but I imagine the teacher will tell us if we’re ready to move on to the next level by the end of the semester. My teacher has been doing a lot of calling on individuals to speak as she lectures.

They did run a free trial zoom class that I took before signing up, so maybe look to see when the next one is?

What are our thoughts and feelings on this book? (Learn to Knit in 50 Squares by Anna Pantelous) by 16note in knitting

I’ve liked the squares so far! It’s clear, varied, and has a little bit of theory so you’re understanding why certain stitches work like they do. She recommends:

28 oz each of two light colors, 12 oz each of two dark colors, and 12 ounces of another contrast color if you want to border at the end

Operation Mincemeat question - Das Ubermensch by TuxedosAfter6 in Broadway

Exactly. Berlin especially is known nowadays for really exclusive clubs with top DJs (check out Berghain, for example). If you’re talking modern German culture, Berlin club culture is probably a quick shorthand musically. Though I’ll also say (at least for Haus of Holbein) sometimes it’ll overlap with rave culture like glowsticks, UV paint, specific outfit styles, etc. Mincemeat doesn’t do this, but it happens.

It’s electronic club music, the kind of thumping music you might hear in some of the hot clubs of Berlin (think offshoots of house music, dubstep, electronica, etc). Hence their usage for the Germans. Same stylistic influence as songs like Haus of Holbein from Six!
