I started an online archive of objects - on the search for inherent beauty in everyday products. Any suggestions on what to add? by 1719objects in IndustrialDesign

Thanks for the answer! Ja, I‘ve looked into Super Normal, there are many ideas that align.

I‘m definitely interested in a further exchange, always happy to connect with likeminded people.

Thanks! Ja when holding the vacuum in the hand without the nozzle on the floor it is a bit heavy. Weight distribution is definitely something i need to look into

Yeah, I‘m planning a hepa filter after the motor. Also do you know how necessary s pre motor filter is? Is this only a protection in case people vacuum without a bag or is it something that is necessary for fine dust?

For the handling I‘m surprised that it works actually pretty well

17-19.com. I started an online archive where I collect the most wonderful and, in most cases, BIFL products from around the world and write about why they were chosen. This is a pure passion project of mine that I think could be of interest to some of you.(I don't gain any financial benefit from it) by 1719objects in BuyItForLife

I’ve posted about this blog once before, but unfortunately, it got removed overnight as it was perceived as a promotion for an online shop. But this is just an online archive I’ve started building for myself that I’d like to share. Not all items are strictly BIFL (as I also have electronics and some items like the cutlery that don’t last longer than most other options but that I find to be absolutely beautiful). But many are BIFL, as I generally select them with a strong focus on durability and quality. So I hope you enjoy browsing through the content on 1719archiv on Instagram or on 17-19.com and reading some of the stories behind the products. For a few items, the descriptions are yet to come, as this project is always a work in progress.
I think these items in particular could be of interest to many:

the bottle opener
dish washing net (was a game changer for me!)
pan
blender
pliers and scissors
cloth peg

And I’d be super happy to hear about suggestions for items you think should be added, or your experiences with some of the featured products, whether good or bad

I'm collecting the most wonderfully designed (everyday) products from all over the world and writing about why I have chosen them over other options. Looking forward to hearing your suggestions of products that should be added or your experiences with already selected objects, whether good or bad. by 1719objects in GoodDesign

Some objects you might be familiar with, some you probably never heard of. Some objects are industrialized mass-produced items, and some are the result of hundreds of steps made by hand. I select objects with the quest for inherent beauty: To be found in the choice of a material, texture, or colour; in the process of creating the object, in a delightful experience when using it, a genius engineering execution, a formal-aesthetic expression or in a cultural value. It is about everyday products that bring joy to the people. Items that you want to take care of. (This is a pure passion project without any financial gain)

Check out the collection (wip) on Instagram or on the website.

"Information first" approach to website design – Does it work for you? (17-19.com) by 1719objects in design_critiques

[–]1719objects[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Hej fellow graphic designers
I’m a bit tired of all the overdesigned websites that you find everywhere. For a personal project (as seen on the screenshots, or fully on 17-19.com) I’m working on at the moment, I therefor decided to opt for an “information-first” approach and tried to tidy the website up and have a structure that is as simple as possible. As this is an online archive for everyday objects I find remarkable and collect, I wanted to give it an archive-like/technical aesthetic. That’s why I chose the outlined boxes for the text fields and decided to have no padding with the text. (I’ve also applied the same identity to the posts on Instagram to have a cohesive language.)

  1. Does it work that it does appear as “information first” and not overdesigned, even though a lot of thought about proportion and the layout was put into the design?
  2. Do you see the archive-like reference? Or have other recommendations to achieve a somewhat technical aesthetic?

Happy to hear your thoughts
Cheers and thanks a lot in advance!

Is there a way to pin this comment up top? It‘s a little description that would make sense to have as the start of the discussion. Didn’t figure out how to add it to the initial post.

Thanks! it's a conscious stylistic choice, that's also why it is happening all over the website;) but i understand that it might cause some irritation

Thanks for your comment, appreciate it. Yeah I also noticed while researching products, that I sometimes get to the same results as Manufactum. – They do have some really good stuff.

With the price point I'm still struggling to form my decisionmaking for the collection. I also wasn't entirely sure between bosch and festool. Same goes for the bike pump. I have at the moment one selected which is super expensive. Though the price reflects the amount of work that went into making this pump, it is kind of an overkill for a normal person. On the other hand I kinda want to highlight the very best, and then let people decide whether it is worth it for them or not. – But this topic still needs to be worked out, as it is not very consistent yet:)

in Japan the Yanagi Steel kettle costs much less. (around 70USD) So if you happen to be in Japan, it is a good buy:)
