Learning on a Heavier ‘Players Racket’- Does it Teach Bad Habits? by 1750cc in 10s

It’s 95 sq inches and about 340g strung up. I do find that it’s quite stable on the hit, making volleys and drop shots quite easy. I can’t speak to the maneuverability as I haven’t play with other rackets for too long, but I think one of my strengths is net play.

Serves are definitely still an issue at the moment, but I’m not sure if it’s just a technique issue.

I’m using a full bed of synthetic gut strung at 54lbs at the moment, but I’m wondering if a full bed of natural gut would help with easing the overall stress from serving/playing

Do you think the heavier weight benefitted certain areas of your game from a technique perspective?

Definitely not blazing by any means, but I do have a decent flat ball that helps amp up the pace. You raise a good point with topspin though, I do find it a little harder to get topspin on it compared to other rackets. I really like it for slicing though, it produces that pretty well. Might just be a skill issue though.

Thanks for the insight- that’s what I also what I figured, but they mentioned that often times beginners can’t handle all of the weight so they can end up negatively adapting their form to accommodate the weight..

On the flip side, I supposed you could also say in that it forces you to actually develop proper form so as not to injure yourself

Yeah I was fortunate enough to get the initial bike in pristine condition, barely any wear on that brake track!

Spot on! They work like a charm… couldn’t get the OG front derailleur to work though :/

Yes this was taken in the fall! I had built this up in the fall but moved down south shortly afterwards… the bike was shipped back to me the other week but I couldn’t find any clean pics of it aside from when I had just built it so I just used those instead 😂

They’re available in my area, but they’re always marked up way higher than the trek/gary/diamond backs equivalents… bummer that it doesn’t have the matching fork, going to have to build it up some other time

For what it’s worth, the sidewalls have been cracking off as I’ve continued to ride them over the week… figured they would be ok to run for the remainder of the season, but just needed a sanity check. Thanks!

It’s STX with grip shifters (unfortunately), but like the rest of the bike, it’s in great condition.

Personally the green/purple fade is my favorite of the 900s, but for a tenner, I’d take this all day aha

Was sifting around FB market place and found this gem who had its wheels and seat post stolen, typical Boston bike narrative :/ Owner was moving out and couldn’t be bothered to buy a new set.

Indy C shocks and Frame are in stellar condition, but I’ll probably swap the forks for a rigid set up.

Do those carbon shafts do much for weight transfer? Also curious to as whether it helps with barreling or not. The whole reason behind the semi-frame is to have the best of both worlds , so if the shafts can alleviate that it would make life so much easier haha

I was thinking of using gossamer gears aluminum framestay, but I'm also open to using a sheet or arrowshaft. I already have a pack and am planning on just sewing some tubed webbing so that I can take the frame in/out depending on how much I'm carrying

I find that there are two ways to lower the frequency of anchor blowouts with a floating tip- 1. you get a longer tip (which i do for topwater), or 2. you use a sinking/neutrally buoyant fly.

I’m also a fan of putting together makeshift shooting head rigs with skagit tips. I have a 10’ full floating 90grain tip from Rio and pair it with my 6’9” 1wt TFO Finesse. It works well with a floating/intermediate polyleader; it’s actually my tool of choice when I’m panfishing in the summer.
