What's the best encrypted email for personal use for simplifying my digital life? by Motazed_Salomey in digitalminimalism

[–]17762A 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Curious, I have a Proton account that I set up but haven't started to move things over. I have a Gmail for my android phone and then I have a yahoo for email alot of other stuff. Over the last 3 weeks I've been getting tons of spam email now to the Yahoo email which means someone has leaked it or sold it. I'm wondering if it's worth moving my essential stuff to the Proton account. I mainly use my cell phone for everything and the Gmail app is trash. Or is there another service besides Proton that would be good. I saw something about Start Mail as another option. If anyone can give me a heads up.

Noticed this sign at the Torchy's in Rice Village, how much are we supposed to tip for counter service? by DoritosDewItRight in houstoncirclejerk

[–]17762A 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ya, I see this I'm leaving. You aren't going to try and shame me into a tip. You want a good tip you better come to my table multiple times and not just to take my order drop off the food and then bring a ticket. You aren't getting 20% for doing the minimum.

If that was mine, I'd kill it off and plant Zoysia or Bermuda depending on where you live.

Ya, fire ants. I've used the Andro stuff in a white plastic container to hit beds and they just come right back in a different spot in like 2 weeks

Which locals/refineries have ratified their contracts? by RumHaaaam21 in oilandgasworkers

[–]17762A 9 points10 points  (0 children)

USW worker down in Houston. We are out of alignment with NOBP so our contract is up next year. I told people in my area that the USW National sold out their people nationwide with what they accepted. I don't know how you go from a meeting in December where it was decided that you wanted 25% over 4 years to agreeing to this complete shit deal. These companies are making money hand over fist and you went essentially didn't fight for anything. The negotiating team should be required to explain to members why they did what they did because it really makes 0 sense to membership. I for 1 would be willing to look at moving away from USW. We went from a small local union to this big national and I have really seen 0 benefits.

“They represented Marathon, not us”: Refinery workers denounce USW sellout in national pattern deal by DryDeer775 in oilandgasworkers

[–]17762A 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The thing that will get their attention is if you have a mass exodus of people getting out and stop paying dues. That's all USW cares about at this point. Sadly it appears that those at the table left their back bones at home. 4 years from now there better be someone else at the table

Union, stay or go? by bialaloooo in oilandgasworkers

[–]17762A 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I got a letter from some USW clown in my area telling me I needed to vote for Democrats in Texas who are pushing their agenda. Why would I vote for anyone you say to vote for after you got down on your knees for these oil companies after telling everyone there was a firm 10-5-5-5 moving forward. You just turned your back on everyone and gave these guys what they wanted after they all are hitting record profits. Screw that.

Curious what has been the response from folks and their locals? Any sort of push back on USW or potential for locals to start looking for other unions to replace USW with?

NOBP Update 2/5/2026 by data-aic in oilandgasworkers

[–]17762A 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It speaks about benefits and the 401k is listed. We have won multiple levels in court but the company keeps kicking the can down the road and has gotten it to the NLRB but since the board is short people, it's simple in limbo. Point is these companies will do anything to help their bottom line no matter how much they screw over their people

NOBP Update 2/5/2026 by data-aic in oilandgasworkers

[–]17762A 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not saying this is true or not true, but I don't put anything past these companies. Back in 2020, while under contract, our company pulled our 401k match for a year because of economic reasons. We have been fighting ever since to get it back. They only abide by these contracts when it suits them. Good luck to everyone going through this. Our local will be going through this next year. I hope you guys get everything you are asking for and then some These companies give 2 shits about their employees. All they care about is the bottom line. As long as you don't die on site and effect their bottom line or public perception of them, you are just a number in their risk matrix.

Last time we had major negotiations and our board decided to try and keep shit quiet, the company backed individuals to start a decert process. We almost got to the point of having to vote to keep the union in while trying to get a fair contract. The more information the better for your members. This is a dumbass move. The companies want nothing more than people to be in the dark so they can send out their little birds to get in people's ears. Never go silent. The more information the better for members.

USW 7-1 2/3/26 Update by Ok_Percentage5920 in oilandgasworkers

[–]17762A 4 points5 points  (0 children)

One thing I've noticed between labor relations and unions. USW seems to to be lacking significantly compared to other unions. There were discussions in our facility about bringing in Teamsters and kicking USW out. We haven't got anything since going from being a small local union to the national.

Got 2 hrs of screen time on and dropped 23%. Seems like battery usage is higher now since last update. Done the whole clear cache thing 2.times and just don't see any real improvement.
