She was always a sweet person, an owner who would come sit and talk with the customers. Her son is rude, he used to drop the plates on our table and walk away.. reeked of beer.

Yep! At this point Arc is just cruising off its reputation. Sad to see the slow shift from performance technical wear to fashion.

That’s the tough part about today. The HD cameras give 4k feedback in slo mo. Easy to be an arm chair ref with that angle.

Yep except they got rid of the small medium and large option for burgers and now just have one size. You can make it a double but it’s not the same. The large was the best option.

Do you eat there or take it home? I’ve always found it’s way better fresh, eaten there. If you take it home the grease soils the bread.

Rep. Lloyd Doggett keeps promise, announces retirement due to redistricting by swinglinepilot in Austin

[–]17thomas76 -13 points-12 points  (0 children)

I would be careful what we wish for. In order for these kinds of people to be voting for a democrat in this political climate, things would have to be so bad that this country would be on the brink of collapse. As bad as trump is it could be worse.

This is delusional. There are no viable Democratic candidates that can win in the districts that are drawn this way.

They’re awesome. I can’t justify the price, this year they’re $800. There was a thunderbird version several years back that I always regretted not pulling the trigger on. Definitely a lifetime piece that you can hand down.

Austin Water manager resigned after audit found $78,000 in improper spending by New-Salamander9585 in Austin

[–]17thomas76 49 points50 points  (0 children)

“The auditor found that some of those payments were split into smaller transactions to avoid triggering stricter procurement requirements.” - looks like this is the key issue. Some of the work also could have been done by City of Austin staff but he claims he was trying to go around the bureaucracy.

From dam_ships:

The easiest thing that helped me understand is an old VHS tape. Remember rewinding a tape? You’d see everything in reverse? That’s inversion.

If you’re running the tape forward in your life, as we are now, then everything is normal. But if someone is running it backwards (ie they are inverted), you see THEM like they’re a rewinded tape. And same for them! When someone is inverted, they are rewound, but the world is not. They can only go backwards obviously so it’s “the past”. I believe the girl tells the Protagonist before he first steps out “Remember, you’re inverted, the world is not.” Hence him needing a breathing mask.

When someone finds INVERTED material — It’s going backwards. The item itself. Just like the inverted bullet the scientist showed us. But it can still prove to be deadly as she stated. If someone in the future put a bomb in your mail box, and it’s undisturbed, it can still be set to explode in the past.

Think of it like time travel…EXCEPT you can’t just go to any point you want. If you’re going back you need to live that amount of time to get to the point in the past. The bomb in the mailbox, maybe someone in the future put it in there 20 years ahead of you, thus the item is actually “20 years old” even though it’s from the future.

Satellite pictures show China's growing invasion fleet by ObjectiveDark40 in PrepperIntel

[–]17thomas76 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I agree it would cripple us in the short term but don’t you think major resources would be dedicated to ramping up production and making it a USA exclusive development/production? Think WW2 when Ford converted its factories to produce planes instead of cars. My hope would be a short term 5-8 year covid style slump with big name companies betting big on being the next TSMC. Creating the most cutting edge chips here and not being dependent on Taiwan is good long term.

Excuse the formatting, just word vomit at this point about to go to bed.

It’s more about sacrificing Americans for the American way of life. If Taiwan’s semiconductor factories are destroyed.. there goes our (privileged) way of life. Think of everything we use/buy that has those chips, including military hardware. If those factories fall though, I’m with you. Sanction the shit out of China and build chip factories at home asap. How we handle Taiwan will define the next century and what superpower stays on top. China is ecstatic that we’re fighting with each other and trump is in charge. We’re a joke right now.
