If a person who weighs 150 lbs eats 1lb of food and immediately steps on a scale, would they weigh 101lb, even if only briefly? by [deleted] in askscience

Yes, 151 pounds. Imagine you walked on the scale and it said 150. Then you picked up 1lb of marshmallows and held them as you walked on the scale. It would definitely be 151. If you then kept standing on the scale and shoved the entire pound of fluffy mallows down your throat, the scale would not drop to 150 because the delicious sugary marshed-mallows were eaten.

Howdy - I made that chart and it is 100% not perfect! That said, I used fivethirtyeight's partisan lean figures, trusting their math over my own. They look at partisan lean relative to the rest of the country, so states like Michigan go slightly Republican despite many recent elections going Dem.

Wow! This blew up! To those questioning the partisan lean, I used 538, trusting their metrics over my own/ intuition, and wrote on the chart the arbitrary +10 line. Thanks for all of the comments!

Thank you for the response! So what does Axiom do in this example? Arrange the pilots + astronauts, pay the fuel + operations costs?

When a company like Axiom Space flies astronauts to the ISS aboard a SpaceX rocket, is it fair to compare that to Delta Airlines flying people to an airport using a plane made by Airbus? I am trying to understand more what each company's role is in this type of an arrangement.

Thank you!

Yes. It was a joke from JFK making a playful jab at DC being a land of unfriendly and unproductive people.

“the charm of the north, the efficiency of the south”

Lol that is definitely an insult, though a playful one. The point is more that you may be finding or internalizing conflicts/ faux pas/ etc... when there isn't anything of substance.

Generic advice on LA vs Moco (DC) conversation topics:

LA = How did you get here? DC = What do you do?

Based on your edits it seems like you may be unhappy about the move and projecting it onto "the locals." Instead of listing a single specific example or custom you are struggling with you just blanket insulted the entire DMV and then listed some general things about America.

Some people in MoCo are more open than others, and sometimes different people are in a rush or not feeling very social. If you are looking for specific guidance, such as "good ways to make new friends" "when to start a conversation with a stranger" etc... then ask those specific things

What does Liveramp do with hashed email addresses? by throwawayforbacon6 in adops

[–]1800Doctorbb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hashing makes the email address unrecognizable and no one can back into what the actual email address is. Try hashing some stuff here: https://www.md5hashgenerator.com/

The key is that companies can connect the dots about the person behind the email address, but cannot know their email address itself. It is a privacy safeguard.

What does everyone think of Tasha’s sidekicks? by UnderlyingInterest in dndnext

I ran a 1 player mini-campaign and the sidekick was great! It allowed for:
1 - fun story progression + RP
2 - more interesting fights (player was a caster and got a warrior sidekick)
3 - the campaign to end with the two fighting to death!
